This song from “Aulaad” is a long standing farmaish of Raja, but all these days I had been hampered from posting it because its video is not available. After searching for its video and drawing a blank, I took its audio clip and I decided to present this song with the picture of Chitragupta, the music director of this movie and indeed of this song.
Now, its video has become available and I have been able to locate the video, so I have replaced the audio clip with the video clip.
The lyrics are funny and it is amazing to realise that Majrooh Sultanpuri has written this funny song. Manna Dey and Asha Bhonsle have both sung this song with gusto.
The theme is a desi girl falling in love with a western man. Each of them tries to “reform” the other according to his/her own values. Thus the Angrez would like the desi girl to behave like the western girls, where as the desi girl wants the Angrez to become Hindustani.
Throughout this song, I was thinking of those desi girls who have actually married Angrez guys. At least one of them is a reader of this blog. 😉
This song is as funny as the “Main Bangali chhokra” song from “Raagini” which has already been posted in this blog.
The Angrez played by Mehmood acts like Charlie Chaplin,, with just the same dress, and with a stick, and he moves in jerks, just like Charlie Chaplin did in his movies. This depiction of an Angrez must have raised lots of laughter in the movie halls those days. Aruna Irani plays the desi girl with “proper” attributes that a girl was supposed to have, which according to her were possessed only by desi girls. 😉
It is a funny song with suitably funny picturisation too.

You still haven’t put the most popular song of the film, “Kab tak huzoor” which topped the weekly Binaca charts in those days.

You must have taken a lot of trouble, looking for the video. I really appreciate it. Let’s see if we can get hold of it somewhere. I remember seeing it on youtube ages ago but it seems to have been removed.
This is a real timepass song. The video is also pretty good – with Mehmood doing a Charlie Chaplin spoof in the movie, and Aruna Irani as his desi “fiancee”.
And this reader of the blog – “hindustani” marrying an angrez guy. Do I know her ? 😉
