Atul’s Song A Day- A choice collection of Hindi Film & Non-Film Songs

Bigdi banaane waale bigdi banaa de

Posted on: February 9, 2009

This song is from 1949, just after independence. The song is recorded under primitive technological conditions, still the quality of this recording is very good. The voice of Suraiyya can still enthrall the listeners.

This could ell be one of the first songs where divine intervention is sought to sort out human problems. The lyrics are so well known, and this song was such a popular song in the “puraani filmon ke geet ” programme on Radio ceylon in 1960s and 70s.

This is an evergreen song, no doubt about that.

Song-Bigdi banaane waale (Badi bahan) (1949) Singer-Suraiyya, Lyrics-Qamar Jalalabadi, MD-Husnlal Bhagatram

Lyrics

bigdi banane waale
bigdi banaa de
bigdi banaa de
naiyya hamari paar laga de
bigdi banane waale
bigdi banaa de
bigdi banaa de
naiyya hamari paar laga de

duniya hamari tere haath me hai
duniya hamari tere haath me hai
chaahe duba de chaahe mita de
nayya hamari paar laga de
nayya hamari paar laga de
bigdi banane waale
bigdi banaa de
bigdi banaa de
naiyya hamari paar laga de

idhar bhi hain kaante udhar bhi hain kaanten
idhar bhi hain kaante udhar bhi hain kaanten
tu chaahe to kaanton ko kaliyaan bana de
naiyya hamari paar laga de
naiyya hamari paar laga de
bigdi banane waale
bigdi banaa de
bigdi banaa de
naiya hamari paar laga de
bigdi banane waale
bigdi banaa de
bigdi banaa de
naiya hamari paar laga de

Indeed this is an evergreen song.
Am listening to it after ages.

Is the lady in the song Suraiyya? By the way the lyricist is Rajinder Krishan (checked the LP), and not Qamar Jalalabadi.

The lady is indeed Suraiyya.

Sources, viz Earthmusic, smriti etc credit Qamar Jalalabadi as the lyricist of this song. They of course credit Rajinder Krishan for the other songs of this movie.

They could be wrong. I hope that record company themselves may not be wrong. In the meanwhile I have changed the name of the lyricist to Rajinder Krishan.

By the way another song of this movie, viz Wo paas rahen ya door rahen(Badi Bahan), which you will come across soon, is also credited to Qamar Jalalabadi by most sites, including Qamar Jalalabadi’s official site. Please check the LP of this song too and tell me who gets the credit for the lyrics of that song.

Atul Ji, sorry, I had not seen your response to my post all this time (more than a year), I checked the LP and even for Woh paas rahen ya door the lyricist is mentioned as Rajinder Krishan. We could check with Arun Ji on this.

As per HFGK,both the songs are written by Qamar Jalalabadi.

Atul Ji / Arun Ji, in that case I think we should go with Qamar Jalalabadi instead of Rajinder Krishan.
