Rajendra Kumar had acted in many South Indian productions. In that way, he was a predecessor of Jeetendra.
In these movies, he would often be paired opposite South Indian actresses. Vyjyanti Mala was of course the most well known of them, and she in fact was mainly a Bollywood actress. But then there were some actresses who mainly acted in South Indian movies but they made a few sporadic appearances in Bollywood.
Jamuna was perhaps the one who had most success in Bollywood movies.Jamuna acted opposite Rajendra Kumar in “Suraj” and “Hamraahi”.
Here is a nice song from “Hamraahi”. It is a duet which is sung by Rafi and Mubarak Begum. Mubarak Begum had sung a wonderful song “kabhi tanhaayion me yoon hamaari yaad aayegi” a few years ago. This song is also a song where her voice creates the same magic. And Rafi is divine as always.
Hasrat Jaipuri wrote the song whereas Shankar Jaikishan composed the music for this song.
tumko kyaa batlaaun main
tumko kyaa batlaaun main
ke tumse kitnaa pyaar hai
mujh ko apne gale lagaa lo
jab tum mujhse door rahte ho
jiyaa meraa ghabraataa hai
neend aankhon se ud jaati hai
chaand agan barsaataa hai
donon pahloo jal jaate hain
aag mein aag lagaataa hai
jaise tadpe bin jal machhli
pyaar mujhe tadpaataa hai,
pyaar mujhe tadpaataa hai
is uljhan se mujh ko bachaalo,
ai mere hamraahi
tumko kyaa batlaaun main
ke tumse kitnaa pyaar hai
mujh ko apne gale lagaa lo,
ai mere hamaraahi
tumko kyaa batlaaun main
ke tumse kitnaa pyaar hai
mujhko apne gale lagaa lo
jin raahon par hanske chalo tum
phool wahaan khil jaate hain
dam lene ko jahaan ruko tum
madhushaale ban jaate hain
tumko chhookar pawan jhakore
khushboo lekar jaate hain
lekin ham to dekhke soorat
dil thaame rah jaate hain,
dil thaame rah jaate hain
tumko kyaa batlaaun main
tumko kyaa batlaaun main
ke tumse kitnaa pyaar hai
mujh ko apne gale lagaa lo
jab tak tumko main na dekhoon
chain mujhe kab aata hai
khojoon main bairi man ka panchi
door kahin ho jaata hai
jab tum mujhko mil jaati ho
dard dawa ban jaata hai
warna tum bin saara jeewan soona ban kahlaata hai
soona ban kahlaata hai
har manzil par mujhko sambhaalo
ai mere hamraahi
tumko kyaa batlaaun main
tumko kyaa batalaaun main
ke tumse kitnaa pyaar hai
mujh ko apne gale lagaa lo
Listened to this song today.
Btw, it was Vyjanthi opposite Rajendra Kumar in Suraj.
Jamuna did play a very nice role in Milan though. She won Supporting Actress award for that role.
So romantic, mind blowing, so deep, so emotional. If listen with full attention and feel this song, it will bring tears ino your eyes, and your heart will be melt.
I really love this song. This is one of the few songs which I never get tired of listening. There is some special magic in this song which is unexplainable.
