Sajna ke saamne main to rahoongi chup

The movie “Paaras” (1971) is by now a forgotten movie. But this movie was a nice threasure trove of some very nice songs.
This movie had lots of singers (six in all), lots of lyricists ( three in all) and a music director duo. Together, all these 11 people came up with some nice songs.
This particular song “sajna ke saamne main to rahoongi chup” is sung by Asha Bhonsle. Qamar Jalalabadi is the lyricist. Kalyanji Anandji have based this song on Gujarati folk dance.
Song and dance may be an integral part of Bollywood movies, but dancing is not the strong point of all lead actors in Bollywood. In fact, I can reel off the name of some legendary actors who managed to have long careers without dancing even one dance in Bollywood movies. For instance, show me one song where Dev Saab is seen dancing.
Among the distaff side, I could not imagine someone like Shabana Azmi dancing. And she has wisely kept herself confined mostly to serious stuff.
I consider Rakhi to be in the same boat as Shabana Azmi. So imagine my surprise, when I find that it is Rakhi who figures in this song and she is actually shown dancing in this song. And I must say she does a passable job of it, and certainly qualifies with pass marks.
This nice, but rare song is the 800th song of this blog. Phew ! It has been a long and arduous journey. At this rate, I may be on course for 1000th song of the blog by March end. Hopefully I will be able to meet that target.
