It is an unbelievably sweet and romantic song from a movie few people may even be aware of.
this movie is called “Niraala” (1950). Its lyrics were written by P L Santoshi and C Ramchandra was the music director.
This movie had Dev Anand (young and dashing) and Madhubala (sweet 17) in lead roles.
In this song, Dev Anand and Madhubala ( newly married and going off to lead their new lives together, as I can guess) are seated in Dev Anand’s prized possession, a jalopy which, much to his embarassment refuses to start.
This gives Madhubala an opportunity to make fun of the car (tooti phooti gaadi) and the driver (anaadi chalayya)- all in good fun of course. she urges on her sahelis to push the car. Her sahelis join in the fun too.
It is a great funny, as well as romantic song, in which Madhubala’s sahelis warn her to be wary of the city slicker and Madhubala assures her that she was equal to him and she will make him dance to her tune. Of course no one watching the song is i any doubt about that.

The description is wrong. Dev Anand and Madhubala are not newly married. In fact she gets married to someone else in the movie. This song is in fact their first meeting when Dev Anand comes from the city to Madhu’s village.

This is my first visit to your site. I must pay my compliments for your hard work and dedication, and thanks for bringing such gems to our notice. It is so sad that this song and also the other one from Nirala you have posted are now removed from Youtube. Mehfil mein jal uthi samaan from this film is too well known. I would suggest you post the other great Lata Mangeshkar song from this film Aisi mohabbat se hum baaz aye. I rate this as one of the sweetest CR-Lata songs. Was she expressing her own exasperation at the state of her personal relationship with C Ramchandra?
