Dil leke bhaaga

Posted on: April 7, 2009

Bollywood movies have created a few myths which many armchair watchers now believe to be true, though that is hardly the case. The inspiration for two such myths have come from Hollywood movies.

One myth is regarding “dacoits” (bandits). They are depicted as riding on horses ( inspired by western movies depiction of bandits) whereas in reality, there are no such dacoits in India. If they were rich enough to afford horses, they would not be dacoits in the first place.

Second myth is regarding depiction of tribals in Bollywood movies. They would look identical to filmy villagers ,it is just that they would wear feathers of some birds on their heads ( a la Red Indians depicted in Bollywood movies).

So in this old “Nadiya ke paar” (1948), not to be confused with Rajshri Production’s “Nadiya Ke paar” (1982), the heroine Kamini Kaushal plays a tribal girl (wearing feathers on the head to demonstrate that). Here she sings a nice song ( in the voice of Lalita Dewoolkar) talking about the city boy that she fell for and who ditched her.

It is a very nicely picturised dance sequence too where she is accompanied by other feather wearing girls.

Moti, the lyricist has come up with a very cute song, and C Ramchandra has created a music that must have been quite a rage during its time. The song and dance appears to be based on the Gujrati folk dance of Garba.

I love this song and its picturisation. It is a gem and a must hear and watch song for the fans of Bollywood music .

Lyrics

Dil leke bhaaga
daga deke bhaaga
kaise bedardi se dil mera laaga
Dil leke bhaaga
daga deke bhaaga
kaise bedardi se dil mera laaga
chori chori dil ko churaaya main jaani na
chori chori dil ko churaaya main jaani na
meethi meethi baaton me jiya bharmaaya main jaani na
meethi meethi baaton me jiya bharmaaya main jaani na
baaten banaayin aankhen milaayin
bhole bhaale dil ko phansay liyo jaay
haay haay
bhole bhaale dil ko phansay liyo jaay
lalchaaye tarsaaye
kaliyon ka ras lekar bhanwra re bhaga
kaise bedardi se dil mera laaga
Dil leke bhaage
daga deke bhaaga
kaise bedardi se dil mera laaga

laakh kaha dil ne to phir bhi main maani na
laakh kaha dil ne to phir bhi main maani na
kaahu se bhi dil na lagaana main maani na
kaahu se bhi dil na lagaana main maani na
aisi jawaani andhi deewaani
thokar pe thokar lagaay chali jaay
haay re
thokar pe thokar lagaay chali jaay
tadpaayi jiyaa jaay haay haay jaane na
aankhen churaake wo apne se bhaage
kaise bedardi se dil mera laaga
Dil leke bhaage
daga deke bhaaga
kaise bedardi se dil mera laaga

pahli nazar me huyi main deewaani
pahli nazar me huyi main deewaani
lad gaye naina ho gayi ye naadaani
lad gaye naina ho gayi ye naadaani
ab to in aankhon se bahta hai paani
paapi mora jiyara piya ko bulaaye
haay haay
paapi mora jiyara piya ko bulaaye
pachtaaye ghabraaye hai hai jaane na
aisi museebat me chod ke bhaaga
kaise bedardi se dil mera laaga
Dil leke bhaaga
daga deke bhaaga
kaise bedardi se dil mera laaga

Never heard this song before but it is indeed a pleasant song to listen to. Like most folk-dance based songs are.
