Nazar na lag jaaye.. o my love

In any field of activity, whenever a product succeeds, “me to” products with similar packaging come up, which hope to encash on the popularity of the original. Most of the clones fail, but some of the best clones often succeed, and in some cases, may become as successful as the original too.
in 1960s, Shammi Kapoor was the brand and to encash on his popularity, we had “me too” movies with Joy Mukherjee, Vishwajeet etc, and some of these movies were nearly as successful as Shammi Kapoor movies.
There was a Shammi Kapoor movie called “An evening in Paris”. So a copycat movie maker came up with “Night in London”, no less. It has Vishwajeet in lead.
One thing common in Shammi Kapoor movies and those of his clones was the playback singing by Rafi. And Rafi, as was his wont sounded just as exuberant in all these songs, be it Shammi Kapoor or anyone else.
I have posted Rafi-Shammi songs from “An Evening in Paris”. Here is a Rafi-Vishwajeet song from “Night in London”. The song is written by Anand Bakshi and the music is by Laxmikant Pyarelal.

Song-Nazar na lag jaaye (Night in London)(1967) Singer-Rafi, Lyrics-Anand Bakshi, MD-Laxmikant Pyarelal
Lyrics
o my love
nazar na lag jaaye kisi ki raahon mein
chhupaa ke rakh loon aa tujhe nigaahon mein
tuu kho na jaaye
o my love
nazar na lag jaaye kisi ki raahon mein
chhupaa ke rakh loon aa tujhe nigaahon mein
tuu kho na jaaye
o my love
ai meri haseen dilrubaa mere dil mein chhup ke baith jaa
ai meri haseen dilrubaa mere dil mein chhup ke baith jaa
tujhmen mujhmen fark naa rahe aa qareeb aa qareeb aa
tu kho na jaaye
o my love
nazar na lag jaaye kisi ki raahon mein
chhupaa ke rakh loon aa tujhe nigaahon mein
tuu kho na jaaye
o my love
saamne jo ek tu na ho dil mein koyi aarzuu na ho
saamne jo ek tu na ho dil mein koyi aarzuu na ho
manzilen hazaar hon magar manzilon ki justajuuna ho
ye ho na jaaye
o my love
o my love
o my love
o my love

This is an absolutely great song, sung by the legendary Rafi sahib with both the writer and composer scores brilliantly. These songs are ever green and will always remain ever green through generations.

This is an absolutely great song, sung by our one and only (legendary) Rafi sahib with both the writer and composer scoring brilliantly. Mere words are not enough to describe about this song. This is an ever green song and will always remain ever green through generations to come.

I think the problem is that though I was a big fan of Viswajeet in his hey day, I realize now that his acting skills are less so he doesn’t actually make you feel the song. That’s it. Though he is trimmer. That’s about it and it doesn’t make up for the lack of emotion……
