Jameela Jameela … yaar ki nigaahon mein

“Night in London” was a “me too” movie made to cash on the craze for “An evening in Paris”. This movie, which had music by Laxmikant Pyarelal and lyrics by Anand Bakshi ( as against Shankar Jaikishan as music director and Hasrat Jaipuri as lyricist in “An Evening in Paris”), came up with music of comparable standard.
“Night in London” even had a kind of song that “An evening in Paris” lacked- viz a Helen number. “Night in London” in fact had not one, but two sizzling Helen numbers.
Here is one of them is the remarkable song called “Jameela”.
Normally one would imagine that Asha Bhonsle would sing such cabaret songs, but this song has been sung by Lata. It is perhaps the first time that Lata sang a cabaret song. Later, she would sing similar songs in movies like “inteqaam” etc as well.
Helen sizzles in the picturisation, as only she could. I have no idea how well this movie fared at the box office, but it is clear that the music of this movie had left no stones unturned in popularising this movie.
Now a confession- I have listened to this song for the first time only today. It is farmaishes by Raja and Mr Ashwani Sharma that in fact made me aware of this song. And I am pleased to have discovered this song for the first time today.

Thanks for posting this, Atul.
This movie “Night in London” was an average hit movie. Decent songs. I remember “Jameela” as a song from my early days.
Btw, Evening in Paris also had a cabaret. Only it was not Helen but Sharmila herself performing. The song was “Zuby zuby zalalu”.
