Kaise din beete kaise beeti ratiyaan

I recall having read about this song in the past, and perhaps I may have listened to this song in the past too, without paying much attention. But this time I listened to it carefully , and I was very impressed.
The reason I was impressed was that this time I was armed with all the information about the song which was not the case earlier. This song is from a movie called “Anuradha”(1960). This movie had Balraj Sahni and Leela Naydu in lead roles. In 1970s, I used to read that Leela Naidu was regarded as the most beautiful woman in the world no less. I was sceptic about such a claim. Looking at Leela Naidu in this song, one realised that there is definitely truth in the fact that she was indeed quite pretty to look at.
This song sounds like it is a Madan Mohan creation, but it is not. The singer is Lata alright, but the music director is Pt Ravishankar, the legendary sitarist. Shailendra is the lyricist.
This song is definitely one of the gems that I so love to look for and then post in this blog.

Lyrics
haay
haay
kaise din beete kaise beeti ratiyaan
piyaa jaane na
haay
kaise din beete kaise beeti ratiyaan
piyaa jaane na
nehaa lagaa ke main pachhtaayi
nehaa lagaa ke main pachhtaayi
saari saari rainaa nindiyaa na aayi
jaan ke dekho mere jee ki batiyaan
piyaa jaane na
haay
kaise din beete kaise beeti ratiyaan
piyaa jaane na
rut matwaali aa ke chali jaaye
rut matwaali aa ke chali jaaye
man mein hi mere man ki rahi jaaye
khilne ko tarse nanhi nanhi kaliyaan
piyaa jaane na
haay
kaise din beete kaise beeti ratiyaan
piyaa jaane na
kajraa na sohe gajraa na sohe
kajraa na sohe gajraa na sohe
barkhaa na bhaaye badraa na sohe
barkhaa na bhaaye badraa na sohe
kyaa kahoon jo poochhe mose mori sakhiyaan
piyaa jaane na
haay
kaise din beete kaise beeti ratiyaa
piya jaane na

I agree with your remark about Leela Naidu. She is lovely and she possesses that pristine charm. I also love the song. Since you said that it seemed like a Madan Mohan creation, I want to make a comment about the lyrics, but I will do it at the other Anuradha song “Haye re wo din kyun.”

I know they are a bit tedious translations, but could you give me the gist of the song then? Thanks a ton.

All the songs of Anuradha are very good.
I saw the movie a few months ago. Very nice movie too.
