Jhoom jhoom ke naacho aaj

Posted on: April 24, 2009

I had posted a piano song from “Andaaz” (1949) yesterday. Here is another piano song from the same movie.

Like the earlier song, this song (“jhoom jhoom ke naacho aaj”) is also one where Dilip Kumar plays the piano and sings and a girl dances to this song in a party.

And this song, sung by Mukesh, written by Majrooh Sultanpuri and composed by Naushad is yet another immortal song from this movie. In this song, Nargis is present along with Raj Kapoor and she is not very comfortble for some reason and leaves the place as the song draws to a close.

Song-Jhoom jhoom ke naacho aaj (Andaaz) (1949) Singer-Mukesh, Lyrics-Majrooh Sultanpuri, MD-Naushad

Lyrics

jhoom jhoom ke naacho aaj naacho aaj
gaao khushi ke geet ho
gaao khushi ke geet
aaj kisi ki haar huyi hai, aaj kisi ki jeet ho
gaao khushi ke geet ho

koyi kisi ki aankh kaa taaraa
jeewan saathi saajan pyaaraa
aur koyi taqdeer kaa maaraa
dhoondh rahaa hai dil kaa sahaaraa
kisi ko dil kaa dard milaa hai
kisi ko man kaa meet ho
gaao khushi ke geet ho
jhoom jhoom ke naacho aaj naacho aaj
gaao khushi ke geet ho
gaao khushi ke geet ho

dekho to kitnaa khush hai zamaanaa
dil mein umangen lab pe taraanaa
dil jo dukhe aansoo na bahaanaa
ye to yahaan kaa dhang puraanaa
isko mitaanaa usko banaanaa, is nagri ki reet ho
gaao khushi ke geet ho
jhoom jhoom ke naacho aaj naacho aaj
gaao khushi ke geet ho
gaao khushi ke geet ho

Yet another great song from my favorite movie, Andaz! Dilip Kumar has come to know that Nargis is engaged to be married to Raj Kapoor and now Nargis knows that Dilip has mistaken her earlier attentiveness for affection towards himself, so here is the eternal triangle. I love the lyrics in this song, where Dilip is congratulating the happy couple, and Raj Kapoor looks really happy, but he is beginning to wonder about his fiancee, who is looking, as you say, distinctly uncomfortable. I could go on and on about these songs forever, but I am afraid you will end up banning my posts afterwards! But that is how much I love the songs from this movie.

Thanks for all these great songs, Atul!

Thanks for posting this, Atul.
I like this song very much – and sing it a lot (very badly of course). 🙂
Especially that line “kisi ko dil ka dard mila hai, kisi ko man ka meet ho..gaao khushi ke geet ho”.

Nargis(Nina) is uncomfortable at her wedding celebration because she knows that she has managed to break the heart of Dilip Kumar(Dilip) by not being entirely clear with him that she had another person in her life. To her, Dilip was a friend whose attention and adulation she enjoyed but could not give up her earlier commitment to Raj Kapoor(Rajan).
