naa bol pi pi more angnaa

Posted on: April 30, 2009

Here is another “new” song for me. This song is from “Dulaari” (1949). It is sung by Shamshad Begum and picturised on Geeta Bali.

Shakeel Badayuni is the lyricist and Naushad composed the music. “Dulaari” incidentally was the movie that made Rafi a well known singer. Yes, it was in this movie that Rafi sang that timeless song ” suhaani raat dhal chuki, na jaane tum kab aoge” and that catapulted him to the big league of playback singers.

I am sure Shamshad Begum too must have hit big time with songs like this one.

I love Shamshad Begum’s voice. As lovely as Lata’s singing was, it’s a pity that there wasn’t room for both seemingly.

This film is pretty fun too, by the way, and lots of eye candy in both Madhubala and Geeta Bali 🙂

Lata’s kind of singing ( high pitched singing) was different from Punjabi kind of singing ( Noorjahan etc). In fact, I preferred Geeta Dutt and Asha Bhonsle kind of singing more than Lata kind of singing. Bu yes, Lata was reportedly fiercely protective of her turf.

I share your thoughts Atul, I prefer the likes of Geeta Dutt and Asha Bhosle.
