Music director Ravi is one person who entered Bollywood music scene in 1940s ( as an assistant music director) and he was around for the entire period that is regarded as the golden era of Bollywood music. He in fact can be described as one of the very few such persons who was there when the golden era began and he was still around when that era was over. All this while, he held his own . He was never jobless and he continued to churn out hit songs without fail.
Ravi is mainly known as a music director. But he had come to Bollywood hoping to make it as a singer. He made it big as a music director, but there are a few occasions when he sang too. And there were a few occasions when he wrote the lyrics too.
Here is a song, in which Ravi did every thing. He not only composed the music, he wrore the song and sang it as well.
This song “Dard e dil toone diya” is from “Khaamosh nigaahen” (1989) which was the last movie in which Ravi gave music. That way, this song was the swan song of Ravi, after which he finally bowed out of Bollywood for a life of retirement.

He sang very few songs, though. He wrote a few more songs than he sang.

If I HAD to pick a favorite MD it might be Ravi…but I had no idea he also sang and wrote lyrics 🙂 I learn something new every day!
