“Talaash” (1969) had awesome music and a nice story line. In another time and era, this movie would have gone on to become a musical blockbuster. But unfortunately this movie had to compete with “Aradhana” and it was a knock out contest. “Talaash” was knocked out and “Aradhana” won.
The music of “Talaash” is awesome. I have already posted a few songs from this song. The mind boggles at the thought that these songs failed to get their due at that time. But then that was the era of glut in quality songs.
In this movie, Lata gave her absolutely best performance, if that is possible. And indeed the same was true for Rafi as well. S D Burman’s music and Majrooh Suultanpuri’s lyrics are great as always.

Not too many people have seen this movie. That is why this movie is not all that well known.

Your blog is excellent and very well written. In fact, I would have loved it to be less concise (!) but with a collection of over 12,000 songs, I can understand the brevity.

Have been hearing this song all my life. Saw the video for the first time today in the movie.
Another of the songs where the heroine walks barefoot on snow. And doesn’t seem to suffer from frost bite. She is on the dance floor very same evening

caught this flick today afternoon , (me too was on the same train…….)
I watch this movie everytime for the sake of O.P.Ralhan`s style of grandeur,
I was more interested in character artistes of this movie, I like O.P.Ralhan`s style of selecting the starcast……..
(“palkon ke peeche se”,
“khaayi hai rey hamne qasam ”
and
“aaj ko junli raatmaa” should have been picturised on Vyjayantimala or Rekha…..
and
“kitni akeli” on Meena Kumari)
(the above selection of cast for the song picturisation is strictly based on my personal /biased opinion)
but “aaj ko junli raatmaa” was saved by co-dancers,who danced very well(Raani,Uma Dhawan,Jayashree.T, and Sushma shiromanee)
superb music, Dance direction by Sohanlal and Surya Kumar is very good,
Sets, dance direction, costumes are all good ,but the main dancers ??? !!!(The less said, the better)
