Dil ne pyaar kiya hai ik bewafa se

on:There are many songs that I heard in my younger days and loved them, even though I had no inkling which movie these songs were from. I have been rediscovering many of these songs again.
In many cases, these songs are from well known movies and well known music directors, though some times these songs have been from lesser known movies as well.
This song is one that is from a lesser known movie and a lesser known music director. It is one song that is an absolute gem, and the lesser known music director is one who deserved much better than what he achieved in his career.
The song is “dil ne pyaar kiya hai ik bewafa se” from “Sharaarat” (1972). It is sung by Rafi and the song is written by Hasrat Jaipuri. The music director is Ganesh, younger brother of Pyarelal ( of Laxmikant Pyarelal fame). Ganesh got very few opportunities as an independent music director, and most of these opportunities were in C grade movies, but his music was of a high standard. The iconic “dil ka soona saaz tarana dhoondhegaa” is a composition of Ganesh. I have also posted a nice song from “Chalaak” in this blog that was composed by Ganesh.
Listen to this song. This song will just floor you.
It is a party/ piano/ betrayal song picturised on Vishwajeet and Mumtaz. We thought that Vihwajeet aped Shammi Kapoor, but of late I am realising that he aped Dev Anand, at least in his hair style. This is a song about Vishwajeet being betrayed in love. The betrayee, Mumtaz looks suitably chastened by the accusation. 😉
Picturisation is nice, and the song is just ouit of the world. A gem of a high order this song is.

Lyrics
dil ne pyaar kiyaa hai ik bewafaa se
dil ne pyaar kiyaa hai ik bewafaa se
pachhtaa rahe hain
dil hamaaraa thaa hamne haaraa thaa tumpe waaraa thaa
dil ne pyaar kiyaa hai ik bewafaa se
dil ne pyaar kiyaa hai ik bewafaa se
kal tumne jo hamse waade kiye the
kahaan hain
kahaan hain
kahaan hain
wo vaade
kal tumne jo hamse khaayin thin kasmen
kahaan hain
kahaan hain
kahaan hain
wo kasmen
na itaraayiye na muskaayiye
sharmaayiye
dil hamaaraa thaa hamne haaraa thaa tumpe waaraa thaa
dil ne pyaar kiyaa hai ik bewafaa se
dil ne pyaar kiyaa hai ik bewafaa se
ai jaane jaan tumko pooja hai hamne
zara yaad kije wo raaten suhaani
hamraaz thin tum meri zindagi ki
magar aaj badli huyi hai kahani
ye kya ho gaya
ye kyun ho gaya
samajh na saka
dil hamaaraa thaa hamne haaraa thaa tumpe waaraa thaa
dil ne pyaar kiyaa hai ik bewafaa se
dil ne pyaar kiyaa hai ik bewafaa se
ai gulbadan sabse mumtaaz thin tum
mahal pyaar kaa ik banaayaa thaa maine
ye kiski nazar se jalaa aashiyaanaa
bade naaz se ghar sajaayaa thaa maine
luti zindagi miti bandagi mili beqasi
dil hamaaraa thaa hamne haaraa thaa tumpe waaraa thaa
dil ne pyaar kiyaa hai ik bewafaa se
dil ne pyaar kiyaa hai ik bewafaa se
pachhtaa rahe hain

What an absolutely lovely song this is !
Well done, Ganesh.
I remember him best as the music director of “Ek Nanhi Munni Ladki Thi”. Also, the songs of Thakur Jarnail Singh were reasonably popular – especially “Hum tere bin jee na sakenge sanam”.
Thanks for coming up with this gem, Atul.
