Parda uthe salaam ho jaaye

Manna Dey was one singer, who despite his ability, was typecast as a singer for bit actors. There were very few movies where he got to sing for the hero. But whenever he got such a chance, he came up with some superb songs.
There are at least two Raj Kapoor movies where it was Manna Dey ( and not the usual Mukesh) who sang for Raj Kapoor and did a great job. One is “Chori Chori” and another is “Dil Hi To Hai”.
Here is a superb, though lesser known song from “Dil Hi To Hai”. Like most other songs in this movie, it is a qawwali, where Raj Kapoor, disguised as a “Qawwal” sings this song at a wedding, where Pran ( our “beloved” villain) decked up a a groom, with intentions of marrying Nutan the damsel in distress. This song is a message to Nutan that the hero has arrived and all will be well. Just how the hero manages to save the damsel from the clutches of the formidable Pran is not very clear to me, but I am sure the hero surely must have come up with more plans up his sleeve than just singing this song. 😉
This song in fact is sung by Ashja Bhonsle and Manna Dey. Sahir Ludhianvi wrote this song which has a few heavy durt words ( I hope I have come up with the correct lyrics). Roshan is the music director.
Here is this superb qawwali. Enjoy.

Lyrics
tumhari mast nazar gar idhar nahin hoti
nashe me choor fizaa is qadar nahin hoti
parda uthke salaam ho jaaye
parda uthke salaam ho jaaye
parda uthke salaam ho jaaye
baat ban jaaye kaam ho jaaye
aha
baat ban jaaye kaam ho jaaye
ay habeeb mera tujhko salaam
ay habeeb mera tujhko salaam
ay habeeb mera tujhko salaam
ay habeeb mera tujhko salaam
chaand baadal me chhupega kaise
husn aanchal me chhupega kaise
chaand baadal me chhupega kaise
husn aanchal me chhupega kaise
main hoon betaab tum ho bekhwaab
kyun na deedaare aam ho jaaye
parda uthke salaam ho jaaye
oho
baat ban jaaye kaam ho jaaye
ay habeeb mera tujhko salaam
tujhko salaam
ay habeeb mera tujhko salaam
ishq badnaam na hone paaye
shauk nakaam naa hone paaye
ishq badnaam na hone paaye
shauk nakaam naa hone paaye
zulm aur gair kar chuke gair
ab muhabbat ka naam ho jaaye
parda uthke salaam ho jaaye
aha
baat ban jaaye kaam ho jaaye
dil pe gairon ka izaara kyun ho
ye sitam hamko gawaara kyun ho
dil pe gairon ka izaara kyun ho
ye sitam hamko gawaara kyun ho
saikdo gham sah chhuke ham
ab ye kisaa tamaam ho jaaye
parda uthke salaam ho jaaye
pho
baat ban jaaye kaam ho jaaye
ay habeeb mera tujhko salaam
ay habeeb mera tujhko salaam
tujhko salaam tujhko salaam
ay habeeb mera tujhko salaam
tujhko salaam tujhko salaam
ay habeeb mera tujhko salaam

nice composition and lyrics.
Off course it’s again magic of Sahir and excellent musical wrapping of Roshan. (clap)
