Aayo kahaan se ghanshyaam

“Buddha Mil Gaya” (1971) was a movie starring Navin Nischol who had become a hot property after “Saawan Bhadon”. Unfortunately that was the only hit movie he delivered as a hero and he was soon lost to oblivion.
This movie “Buddha Mil Gaya” had a few wonderful songs composed by R D Burman and written by Majrooh Sultanpuri. Manna Dey was a playback singer who was mainly employed to sing semi classical songs which were then used as comedy songs sung by some fringe actor or comedian on screen.
Ironically, such songs, which were planned as light hearted songs of time pass nature, went on to become timeless classics with passage of time.
Here is a song from “Buddha Mil Gaya” that bears me out. This song, sung by Manna Dey ( and Archana also sings a couple of lines) was picturised on Om Prakash. The picturisation only uses a portion of the full song, not the entire song, which was another disadvantage of being Manna Dey, not a singer of the masses.

Beautiful song! I have not been coming here for some time now, due to personal problems. Songs like this are so soothing to the mind. Thanks, Atul!
