Har nazar mein sau afsaane
Posted on: May 25, 2009
This movie called “Shabnam” (1964) is a hotchpotch of Arabian Nights, Zorro etc. Those days, comedians were trying their luck acting as heroes. Here Mehmood plays the hero, but just like Jagdeep, Mehmood too failed to click as a hero.
The heroine of this movie was someone called Vijaylaxmi. Here is an interesting song picturised on her. The song is sung by Lata. Prem Dhawan is the lyricist and Usha Khanna is the music director.
The first line of the song which sounds like “Hasnun Ala hai ya Habi” confuses me. It is not Hindi. It is obviously a phrase in Arabic or more likely Persian. Can someone tell what does it mean? Subsequent sentences of the song is thankfully in understandable language.
PS- I just realised that I had already posted two other songs from this movie. So this movie was infact a musical blockbuster, even though the movie itself has largely been forgotten by now.

Song-Har nazar mein sau afsaane (Shabnam)(1964) Singer-Lata, Lyrics-Prem Dhawan, MD-Usha Khanna
Lyrics
Hasnun Ala hai ya Habi
Hasnun Ala hai ya Habi
Hasnun Ala hai ya Habi
Hasnun Ala hai ya Habi
har nazar me sau afsaane
har adaa me sau paimaane
hai koi mujhe pahchaane
Hasnun Ala hai ya Habi
Hasnun Ala hai ya Habi
Hasnun Ala hai ya Habi
parde me bhi jalwe hain mehtaabi
dekho to badh jaaye aur betaabi
aao nazron se peena sikhlaa doon
jeena kahaan hai aaj tumhe samjhaa doon
he yaar he yaar he
ya halu
har nazar me sau afsaane
har adaa me sau paimaane
hai koi mujhe pahchaane
Hasnun Ala hai ya Habi
Hasnun Ala hai ya Habi
Hasnun Ala hai ya Habi
ye jalwe ye naghmon ki barsaaten
aati hain taqdeer se aisi raaten
gaaye jaa jab tak hai ye madhoshi
hosh se achchi pyaar ki ye behoshi
he yaar he yaar he
ya halu
har nazar me sau afsaane
har adaa me sau paimaane
hai koi mujhe pahchaane
Hasnun Ala hai ya Habi
Hasnun Ala hai ya Habi
Hasnun Ala hai ya Habi
saaz utha aur jhoom le tu bhi pyaare
dam bhar ke mehmaan yahaan hain saare
shama ke jalne tak hai afsaana
bujhne pe aata hai kaun parwaana
he yaar he yaar he
ya halu
har nazar me sau afsaane
har adaa me sau paimaane
hai koi mujhe pahchaane
Hasnun Ala hai ya Habi
Hasnun Ala hai ya Habi
Hasnun Ala hai ya Habi

Once Usha Khanna had told in her interview that the lines “Hasnun ala haya habbi” in Arabic languages were learnt from one of the Arabic family who were staying above her house. She was told that it meant “O my beloved -Look at my gracious Beauty”.
