Till 1956, Shammi Kapoor had yet to acquire the mannerisms for which he is known today. It was the movie “Tumsa Nahin Dekha” (1959) that got him on his way.
This movie was the first movie in the Shammi Kapoor style. It had Ameeta as the heroine. O P Nayyar was the music director and Majrooh Sultanpuri was the lyricist.
It was in this movie that Rafi for the first time sang Shammi Kapoor style songs.
This song “chhupne waale saamne aa” is one of the first such songs.
So one can say that it was O P Nayyar who showed the way for the fututre Rafi-Shammi Kapoor songs which were mostly composed by Shankar Jaikishan, though O P Nayyar himself would get to compose music in one more Shammi Kapoor movie viz “Kashmir Ki Kali”.
And personally I think that it was Ameeta in this movie who set an example for the Shammi Kapoor heroines which they found hard to live up to.
Here is this song, which is a a path breaking song in fact, for Shammi Kapoor’s career.
