“Parasmani” (1963), a C grade mythological movie starring Mahipal and Geetanjali has gone on to become a memorable movie, thanks to its music.

The music of this movie was composed by a newcomer music director duo called Laxmikant Pyarelal. The music of this movie became so popular that this movie, otherwise destined to end up unsung, is now regarded as one of the biggest musical blockbusters of all time.

Laxmikant Pyarelal were the assistants of Kalyanji Anandji when they decided to become independent music directors. Their first movie as music director never saw the light of the day. This movie “Parasmani” was their first movie that was released.

The music of this movie catapulted Laxmikant Pyarelal to such fame that they quickly graduated from C grade movies to A grade movies, and they never looked back since.

The brothers of Laxmikant (Shashikant) and Pyarelal (Ganesh) had assisted their brothers in the creation of music of this movie. Rafi and Lata has gone out of their way to help and bless the budding music directors.

The songs sung by Rafi and Lata in this movie count among one of the most memorable songs of their careers.”Hansta hua nooraani chehra ” from this movie became 6th in Binaca geetmala final of 1963. “wo jab yaad aaye” was 15th.

Here is a nice dance song from this movie that goes “uyi maa uyi maa ye kyaa ho gayaa”. This song is sung by Lata and picturised on Helen. This was a mythological movies and they did not have cabarets back then, so here Helen is seen dressed in desi outfits and performing a desi dance. And her dance, as always is nice on the eyes.

Farooque Qaisar was the lyricist of this song.

Song-Uyi ma uyi maa ye kyaa ho gayaa (Parasmani) (1963) Singer-Lata, Lyrics-Farooque Qaisar, MD-Laxmikant Pyarelal

Lyrics

aaa aaa

Uyi ma uyi ma ye kyaa ho gayaa
unki gali me dil kho gaya
bindiya ho to dhoondh bhi loon main
dil na dhoondhaa jaaye
Uyi ma uyi ma ye kyaa ho gayaa
unki gali me dil kho gaya
bindiya ho to dhoondh bhi loon main
dil na dhoondhaa jaaye
haay dil na dhoondhaa jaaye

ik din ki baat hai
nadiya kinaare
unse huye the
chhup chhup ishaare
ik din ki baat hai
nadiyaa kinaare
unse huye the
chhup chhup ishaare
qasam khaa chhuki thi main pyaar na karoongi
main pyaar ka kabhi bhi qaraar na karoongi
ab wo baaten aaye yaad dar hai ho na jaaun barbaad
sheesha ho to tod bhi daaloon
dil na todaa jaaye
Uyi ma uyi ma ye kyaa ho gayaa
unki gali me dil kho gaya
bindiya ho to dhoondh bhi loon main
dil na dhoondhaa jaaye
uyi maa dil na dhoondhaa jaaye

pyaar ke raste piyaa bade oonche neeche
aaun main bol kaise tere peeche peeche
pyaar ke raste piyaa bade oonche neeche
aaun main bol kaise tere peechhe peechhe
na thes lag jaaye ghoonghat gir jaaye
ghoonghat jo sambhaaloon to lat khul jaaye
mushkil me hai meri jaan tu kya samjhe o nadaan
duniya ho to chhod bhi doon main
pyaar na chhodaa jaaye
Uyi ma uyi ma ye kyaa ho gayaa
unki gali me dil kho gaya
bindiya ho to dhoondh bhi loon main
dil na dhoondhaa jaaye
Uyi ma uyi ma ye kyaa ho gayaa
unki gali me dil kho gaya
bindiya ho to dhoondh bhi loon main
dil na dhoondhaa jaaye
Uyi ma dil naa dhoondhaa jaaye

Parasmani has some beautiful songs that I never thought it was a C grade movie. Interesting!

I had never seen this movie, but had seen the song several times.

It’s a great movie, actually, should not be considered C grade except it’s a fantasy…lovely songs as you said!

This is a song I remember from my childhood.
Just did not know then which movie it was from.

This movie has fantastic songs. Apart from the ones you mention here, there is Rafi saab’s beautiful “Roshan tumhi se duniya, raunaq tu hi jahan ki”.
