“Junglee” (1961) is a movie known mainly for Shammi Kapoor. If you are like me, you will only remember Shammi Kapoor and will not have much recollection of other actors in the movie, including the heroine !
And there is no way I am going to remember who the lesser actors in the movie were.
But it turns out that Shammi Kapoor and the heroine ( yes, it was Saira Bano, or was it Sharmila Tagore, or was it Asha Parekh ? Well, it was one of them, I am sure) were not the only ones to sing songs in the voices of Rafi and Lata, respectively. This movie in fact has a duet sung by Mukesh and Asha Bhonsle. And that means that there was another pair in this movie who were considered important enough to have their own duet. This pair was Anoop Kumar and Shashikala and they sing this duet in the movie.
And like the other songs of this movie, this song too is a very nice song to listen too, even though this song was overshadowed by the Rafi songs from this movie ( especially “Yaahoo koi mujhe junglee kahe ” song ).
The song is written by Hasrat Jaipuri. Shankar Jaikishan composed the music.

Lovely song and FABULOUS film 🙂 Shashikala played Shammi’s sister and she was in love with Anoop’s character.

Incidentally I had mentioned about this song in a comment to someone’s post pretty recently, not sure if it was your post someone else’s. Nice to see the song again!
The heroine of the movie was Saira Banoo. This was her debut movie. She had received a nomination for Best Actress at FilmFare Awards that year.
