Ham tum ye bahaar
Posted by: Atul on: June 15, 2009
I have listened to this song for the first time only today, even though this song is from a very old movie called “Ambar” (1952). I was not even aware of this movie, but it turns out that this movie had names like Raj Kapoor, Nargis in it, as also dancers like Helen, Cuckoo etc. So this movie must have some nice dance numbers, was my first impression.
This song is written by Shakeel Badayuni and the music is composed by Ghulam Mohammad. The music, which plays before the song commences is so soothing to the nerves. The music is somewhat reminiscent of the music of “Paakeeza”. It should be the other way round actually since “Paakeja” was a movie that came two decades later, and of course that movie too had Ghulam Mohammaed as the music director.
This song is sung by Rafi and Lata. It is picturised on Raj kapoor and Nargis and it is a nice romantic duet.
And did you notice something special ? Yes, this is one of the very few songs where Rafi sings for Raj Kapoor. And that makes it a special as well as rare song.

Song-ham tum ye bahaar (Ambar)(1952) Singers-Lata, Rafi, Lyrics-Shakeel Badayuni, MD- Ghulam Mohammad
Lyrics
ham-tum ye bahaar
dekho rang laayaa pyaar
barsaat ke maheene mein
rimjhim ye phuhaar
dil gaaye re malhaar
ik aag liye seene mein
ham-tum ye bahaar
dekho rang laayaa pyaar
barsaat ke maheene mein
rimjhim ye phuhaar
dil gaaye re malhaar
ik aag liye seene mein
ho o
ho o
ho o
teri zulfon ki ye rangat hai
jo baadal banke chhaayi hai
teri zulfon ki ye rangat hai
jo baadal banke chhaayi hai
jo baadal banke chhaayi hai
teri aankhon ki ye masti hai
jo saawan banke aayi hai
meraa dam jab tak
rahe pyaar ki chamak
mere dil ke nageene mein
rimjhim ye phuhaar
dil gaaye re malhaar
ik aag liye seene mein
ham-tum ye bahaar
dekho rang laaya pyaar
barsaat ke maheene mein
rimjhim ye phuhaar
dil gaaye re malhaar
ik aag liye seene mein
ho o
ho o
duniyaa ko hamaari ho na khabar
aankhon mein ishaare ho jaayen
duniyaa ko hamaari ho na khabar
aankhon mein ishaare ho jaayen
aankhon mein ishaare ho jaayen
ulfat ka chale aisaa jaadu
dushman bhi hamaare ho jaayen
gham dil se ho door
naa ho koyi majboor
phir aaye mazaa jeene mein
rimjhim ye phuhaar
dil gaaye re malhaar
ik aag liye seene mein
ham-tum ye bahaar
dekho rang laayaa pyaar
barsaat ke maheene mein
rimjhim ye phuhaar
dil gaaye re malhaar
ik aag liye seene mein
ho
ho

The prelude of this immortal duet eases & soothes the nerves even before one listens to the whole soundtrack …. what a composition !!.
The way Rafi modulates the words ‘ bahaar, pyaar, mahine, & the similar words further at similar locations is awesome, even the short aalaps before each antra are so convincing & the ‘taal’ esp. the inputs of Matka is ”joie de vivre”.
