This bhajan is one of the most well known bhajans as well as one of the oldest. Though everyone had listened to it, few people can tell the movie to which it belongs. It is just yesterday that I found out this information.
This song is from “Jogan” (1950). It is sung by Geeta Dutt and this song is one of the most memorable songs of her career. Bulo C Rani was the music director.
Lyricist was someone who was born several hundred years ago. Yes, Meera Bai is the lyricist of this song.
This song is picturised on Nargis playing a Meera Bai like role. Dilip Kumar can also be seen in the picturisation.
This song is easily one of the iconic songs of bollywood that has led to countless variations and versions, and yet this version remains the gold standard.

Interestingly , Bulo C Rani ( male ) was involved in composing time unbound Qawwali ” Hamein To Loot Liyaa Mil Ke Husnwaalone ” from Al Hilaall 1958 . He is said to have committed suicide .
