I have found an absolute gem of a song just now. It is from “Bhai Bahan” (1959).
No it is not a serious song. It is an out and out fun song. It is sung by Rafi and picturised on Johny Walker. This song in fact takes a humorous look at the then popular fad of rock and roll music that had its adherents in high society.
The dance performed by the actors on the floor is great. Even Johny Walker dances nicely.
Going by the lyrics, it is seen that the brains of the lyricists were not taxed much while writing lyrics for a rock and roll song. And it is amusing to note that this song is written by Sahir Ludhianvi. Just imagine a serious shayar, always maintaining a stiff upper lip, letting his hair down just this once.
And N Dutta, who was quite a pioneer in introducing western music in Bollywood, had come up with nice foot tapping music.
This song is an out and out fun song- a must listen and must watch song.
And I am informed that G P Sippy, now knows as a movie moghul, too figures in this song briefly.
It is a great fun song. Kudos to all the people who were involved in creating this gem of a song.
It is a pity that this song had been lying forgotten. But then it is upto us to discover them and enjoy them. And this song is certainly worth listening and watching.

I listened to this song on Sunday. Rafi is absolutely delightful! My kids (who sadly don’t appreciate Vividh Bharti) were highly tickled listening to it. And it simply oozes out Johnny Walker!
