Atul’s Song A Day- A choice collection of Hindi Film & Non-Film Songs

Haay re haay neend nahin aaye

Posted on: July 2, 2009

This song was one of the most popular songs with one and all during its day. And as happened with me quite often those days, I was not aware about the details of this song. I could identify the voice of Rafi and Lata but that was all. In fact I did not know those days that a song had a lyricist and a music director too. I thought that the singer did everything himself/ herself. And of course I had no idea which movie it was from.

The fact that this song is from “Hamjoli” (1970) became known to me only yesterday when I stumbled upon this song once again. I heard this song once again after more than three decades. And this time I could watch the picturisation too.

Now that rainy season had begun in India, this rain song is just the kind of song that I needed to post to sign off for the day.

Rafi and Lata sing this song with gusto, and the song is picturised on Jeetendra and Leena Chandawarkar, who enjoy rains by geting wet in it. I had earlier seen the two playing badminton rather clumsily in the song “dhal gaya din ho gayi raat” in the same movie, whereas here I find them better aptitude in getting wet in the rains.

Though I have been talking glowingly about hero and heroine enjoying rain and getting wet in it in my posts, I do not quite practice what I preach. Yesterday my daughter and wife wanted to get wet in the rain, which brought much relief from the sun. But I like a good father and husband respectively, forbid them to get wet in the rain fearing that they would catch cold.

Incidentally, I recall that when I was young, I thought nothing of going out in the rain without an umbrella or raincoat. But that was more to impress people ( youngsters feel the need to impress others) rather than to enjoy rain.

It is a nice rain song which all of us can enjoy vicariously, whether or not we ourselves may like to get wet in the rain.

The song is written by Anand Bakshi and music is composed by Laxmikant Pyarelal.

Lyrics

hmm hmm hmm
haay re haay neend nahin aaye
chain nahin aaye
dil mein tu samaaye
aayaa pyaar bharaa mausam deewaanaa deewaanaa
haay re haay neend nahin aaye
chain nahin aaye
dil mein tu samaaye
aayaa pyaar bharaa mausam deewaanaa deewaanaa

koyi dekh le agar
gham na kar
koyi dekh le agar
tu ghham na kar
mujhe to lag rahaa hai dar
gham na kar
rut sunaa rahi hai preet ki kahaaniyaan
haay re haay
haay
mast ghataa chhaaye
haay
pyaas naa bujhaaye
aag si lagaaye
aayaa pyaar bharaa mausam deewaanaa deewaanaa

ho ho ho
ho ho ho
ho ho ho
aa haa haa
dil ne dil se kyaa kahaa
kyaa pataa
dil ne dil se kyaa kahaa
ye kyaa pataa
zaraa saa mere paas aa
kyun bhalaa
aa tujhe main de doon prem ki nishaaniyaan
haay re haay
jaan ghabraaye
aankh jhuki jaaye
saans ruki jaaye
aayaa pyaar bharaa mausam deewaanaa deewaanaa

chhedti hai ye hawaa
kyaa huaa
chhedti hai ye hawaa
to kyaa huaa
jagaa hai dil mein dard saa
kyun bhalaa
rang laa rahi hai pyaar ki jawaaniyaan
haay re haay
haay
zulf ki chhaon haay
haay
hosh udaa jaaye
paaon dagmagaaye
aaya pyaar bharaa mausam deewaana deewaana
ho aaya pyaar bharaa mausam deewaana deewaana
hmm hmm hmm

I love to get wet in rain even now…and do it for real now and then. 🙂

Incidentally I had posted about this song in my post about rain songs recently. 🙂

I love this song, it takes me right back to the days when I was a teenager in college, with all kinds of romantic notions about life! In those days, we all enjoyed getting wet in the rain, and we all became romantic and danced in the rain. Now? It is a different story altogether.

Manjit. These days VCDs of rare songs too are freely available in India. It should be available in big cities.

But yes, Sab ka saathi is an obscure movie. Personally I have not seen its VCD/DVD.

Watching these rain songs, I too have got converted to the idea that getting wet in rain is a good idea.

Incidentally, my wife and daughter did enjoy rain by getting wet in it the next day. These wives and daughters ! They are not as obedient as they used to be in older days. 😉
