“Umang”(1970) was a movie that was made with the inhouse resources of the alumni of Pune Film Institute. as long as it meant using their students behind the scenes, it was alright, but they insisted on casting these students as the actors of this movie as well. Going by the reception that this movie received at the box office, the experiment of using these raw youngsters as actors prove to be a disaster.
Fortunately, the best available talent was hired when it came to music. Shankar Jaikishan,the biggest name in music direction, as well as Hasrat Jaipuri , one of the biggest names in lyrics writing were signed up for this movie.
The best and most popular singers were used to sing the songs of this movie.
The songs of this movie were great but they could not save the movie which deservedly flopped.

This song is an idealistic song whose picturisation on a bunch of immature and amateur looking youngsters looks unconvincing. The audio of the movie itself is top class though. Kishore Kumar, the biggest name in male playback singing at that time has sung this song outstandingly well.

Well, at least you agree that the songs were good. If you listen to them a little more (and forget the fact that they are poor NFDC guys who did not quite make it big 😉 ) they may even grow on you. 🙂
Thoroughly enjoyed watching this video today. Very talented actors (am WUM-ming as usual). 🙂
