Manoj Kumar was one producer who knew the pulse of his target audience very well. And he made movies targetted at them.
In all these movies, he would play a representative of the “aam janta” who would be called Bharat.
I am not sure if his character was called Bharat in “Shor” (1972) but going by the plot, that could well be the case.
Manoj Kumar, like Raj Kapoor, ensured that there was a rain song in his movies where heroine had to compulsorily get drenched.
In this movie, Jaya Bhaduri was the heroine, and realising that there were not too many takers for her getting drenched, Manoj Kumar ensured that everyone, and not just Jaya Bhaduri got drenched in this rain song, and the responsibility of dancing in this song was entrusted on some bit actresses.
The song “paani re paani tera rang kaisaa” was written by Santosh Anand and he wrote a good philosophical song. It is sung by Mukesh and Lata. Music is composed by Laxmikant Pyarelal who were giving music in a Manoj Kumar movie for the first time.
PS- I always wanted to see Manoj Kumar in his famous pose where he covers his face with his palm. He obliges us in this song, during the interlude between the first and second stanza of this song.

The nname of the character played by Manoj Kumar is Shankar. Unlike his other films, this does not have a patriotic theme. So, any आम Indian name would have been fine. I have been a die-hard fan of Manoj Kumar ever since I saw Upkar at the age of 12 and I am 67 now!
