Ye shaam ki tanhaayiyaan

“Aah” (1953) had some evergreen memorable memorable songs.
Here is one such song. this song “ye shaam ki tanhaayiyaan” is sung by Lata and it is picturised on Nargis.
Shailendra has written the song. Going through the lyrics carefully, I realised that this song is a high quality poetry. For instance, notice the line-“haalat pe meri chaand taare ro gaye shabnam”. What wonderful imagination !

Atul, there is just one more song in the movie, and for some reason you have not included it here; yet.
It is jhanan-jhanan-jhanan-jhanan ghunghuruwaa baajE
A little trivia. Of all the hindi movies ever made, aah is the one movie that was dubbed into Telugu. They used the same tunes for all the songs, and list S-J as the Music Director. The songs in Telugu were the rage of the town when I was growing up, probably in middle school at the time.
Recently I captured both sets of songs, alternated them and burned them on a CD and have been listening to them repeatedly.
Thanks to the primitive audio technology at the time, the music seems to have been re-orchestrated, whereas now, the track without the vocals would simply be used. And because of this, I see quite a few “improvements” in the interlude musical bits. After all, the Telugu version was made probably at least a few months after the Hindi version turned out to be a huge hit.
The telugu version of the jhanan-jhanan .. is ghallu ghallu ghallu ghallu gajjela sangeetam (gajje -is ghunghur)
As the lines repeat in each verse, the dhaplee sound is considerably different, and better! Hear the song at http://tinyurl.com/4363dpn and see if you agree. I wonder if it was an improvisation dictated by Jai Kishan.
Correction: Apparently Aah was a commercial failure, and needed a revised ending. Don’t know about the telugu version, but the songs were insanely popular.
