Tum kyaa jaano tumhaari yaad mein ham kitna roye

Posted on: August 1, 2009

Believe it or not , there was a Hindi movie with a title like “Shin Shinaaki Bubbla Boo” as early as 1952. One may think that this movie, going by its title must be full of forgettable songs based on western music.

There could well be such songs in this movie, but this movie also has an absolutely wonderful song based on Indian classical music. And this song, though rare and not so well known, is extremely highly rated.

This song “tum kyaa jaano tumhaari yaad me ham kitnaa roye” is sung by Lata and it must be one the most memorable songs sung by Lata. Music director of this song was C Ramchandra. If he said that this was his best composition, then one has to sit back and take notice.

P L Santoshi is the lyricist.Unfortunately, the prints of this move are no longer available, it seems. This song was reportedly picturised on Sadhana Bose.

Song-Tum kyaa jaano tumhaari yaad me ham kitnaa roye (Shin Shinaaki Bubbla Boo) (1952) Singer-Lata, Lyrics-P L Santoshi, MD-C Ramchandra

Lyrics

tum kyaa jaano
tum kyaa jaano,
tumhaari yaad mein
ham kitnaa roye
ham kitnaa roye
rain guzaari taare gin gin
rain guzaari taare gin gin
chain se jab tum soye
ham kitnaa roye

kitni kaliyaan khilin chaman mein
khilke phir murjhaa gayin
birhan ke ik bhole man ko
baar baar samjhaa gayin
ro ke jawaani kati jisne
ro ke jawaani kati jisne
preet ke beeje boye
ham kitnaa roye
tum kyaa jaano,
tumhaari yaad mein
ham kitnaa roye
ham kitnaa roye

kitne baadal ghire gagan mein,
ghirke phir naa barse,
pyaas dabaa kar dil hi dil mein
kitnaa tadpe tarse
dard hamaaraa dil jaane yaa
dard hamaaraa dil jaane yaa
nainaa khoye khoye
ham kitnaa roye
tum kyaa jaano
tumhaari yaad mein
ham kitnaa roye
ham kitnaa roye

All the prints of this movie are destroyed with time, apparently. In fact many well known movies of that era are no longer available.

For instance, I have read a lot about “Jhaanjhar”, a movie from the same era, but the prints of this movie are also not available. In fact, even its audio is not available, it seems.

This was a Rehana and Ranjan starred movie. Rehana was one of the top most heroines of the day and Ranjan used to be compared with Stewart Granger of Hollywood, for his expertise in sword play. There is another song of the same movie “Shishina Ki Boobla Bu do the jisam ek rooh boobla bo”.
It was a chorus not sure of the singers but still have the song .

Funny to mention Jhanjhar. Though print is not available, the cast was Kamini Kaushal, Usha Kiron and Motilal.
There were 9 songs in the movie and I have all of them on a CD.
Best song was ” Aye pyaar tere duniya se hum bus itni nisahni le chale, ek tuta hua dil paas raha ek roti jawani le chale”

Such a melodious sad song by Lata and composed by C Ramchandra. The moment I hear this song…my thoughts go back to me childhood days. The gramaphone winding…His Masters Voice 78 rpm records…..what memories this song brings.

Never will any present composer can create a music so melidious and heart- touching. Lata gave a soulful rendering of this ever green song and justified music director C Ramchandra’s musical composition so endearing to listen even today. I have listened to this song since my childhood and eager to hear at every opportunity I can, ’cause it brings back old memories.
Hats off to C Ramchandra and Lata.

Today was P L Santoshi’s death anniversary and Radio SLBC’s Jyoti Parmar presented this song at the end of the programme at 7.58 a.m.
Absolutely sublime.

Atulji,
This song was pictured on Rehana. P.L.Santoshi was in love with Rehana. For a shoot he got jewellery worth 40 thousand, Rehana wore it for the shoot & then wearing the jewellery left for her native place with P.L.Santoshi’s permission. She came back without the jewellery & he paid the person without batting an eyelid the entire amount. This incident shows how much he must have loved her. Once he went to her house to meet her & was told she was not at home so he spent the entire day waiting for her to return soon it became night & he slept on her doorstep in the bitter cold but her she did not meet him though she was very much at home. In the morning when he got up, the butler informed that she had left for the day & also told him that he was not to come to meet her again. The disheartened P.L.Santoshi penned this memorable song based on this experience, “Tum kya jaano, tumhari yaad mein hum kitna roye, hum kitna roye” which ironically was pictured on her.

I have been listening this song since ages. What a melancholic song ! Yes, this must be one of the finest compositions of C Ramchandra, if not his best.
