During early 1950s, the biggest name in male playback singing was Talat Mehmood, and like Suraiyya on the distaff side, he was foraying into acting too. In fact, many music directors at that time thought that he was not avaialble to sing for other actors ( like Suraiyya) and as a result he stopped getting offers for playback singing for other actors.
Here is a movie where Talat Mehmood and Suraiyya acted together. In this song, both are seen in the picturisation. But the song itself is a solo song, sung only by Talat Mehmood. This song is from “Waaris” (1954). Qamar Jalalabadi wrote this song and its music was composed by Anil Biswas. All these names were heavyweight names at that time. And indeed, this song packs a punch. It is a superbly sung song Talat Mehmood’s voice is always soothing to listen to. Listening and watching him sing a philosophical song is even more soothing. It is a nice song to listen to.
