Dil ka lagaana is duniyaa mein pooraa dhokhaa khaana hai

“Smuggler” (1966) was a so called B grade movie that is not very well known today. But it was quite a decent movie. And the music of this movie was outstanding.
I have posted a couple of songs from this movie in this blog. Here I post a special song. This song is a cabarat song and it is picturised on Helen.
So what is special in that ? It is the playback singer . It is not Asha Bhonsle but Lata Mangeshkar who sang this song. I think that it is the first time that Lata sang a cabarat song that was the preserve of Asha Bhonsle till then. And what a superb job she has done.
The lyricist has done a great job too. I am not aware who the lyricist is. It could be Indeewar or Asad Bhopali or Zafar Muradabadi. These are the three names who are credited with writing the songs of this movie, but individual breakup of the songs is not mentioned.
The song is a wonderful song. I have listened to this quite a few times after I discovered this movie a couple of weeks back. I am sure the listeners of this song will be as enthralled with this song as I have been. This song vindicated my high opinion about Ganesh, the music director of this movie. What a talented music director he was ! He could bring the best out of his singers, be they Lata, Asha Bhonsle, Rafi, Kishore Kumar, Mukesh, Suman Kalyanpur, etc etc.
This song is special for this blog too. It is the 1800th song of this blog. 1800 songs in a little over one year is quite a decent run. I hope I am able to complete many more centuries like this. This century was one of the slowest because I was on journey etc for much of this period and as a result this century took me 25 instead of my usual 16 days. This shows the importance of continuing the momentum. Once I had the momentum, posting 100 songs took just a fortnight. Once I lost the momentum, restarting and getting back to track took lots of energy.
I am extremely thankful to the partons of this blog whose constant encouragement in the form of comments, e mails, visits etc keeps me going. There are many more great songs to cover, and I hope this blog will go from strength to strength as we continue to discuss more and more songs in the days to come. I once again thank you all who keep this blog going.

Song-Dil ka lagaana iss duniya me pooraa dhokha khaana hai (Smuggler) (1966) Singer-Lata, Lyrics-Indeewar/Asad Bhopali/Zafar Muradabadi, MD- Ganesh
Lyrics
Dil ka lagaana iss duniya mein poora dhokha khaana hai
Dil ka lagaana iss duniya mein poora dhokha khaana hai
main chaahon to kise chaahoon
akela dil bhari mehfil
akela dil bhari mehfil
Dil ka lagaana iss duniya mein poora dhokha khaana hai
kyun mujhe koyi nigaahon se pukaare
kyun kare koyi ishaaron pe ishaare
hain sabhi matlabi
na jaane na samjhe muhabbat hai kyaa
main chaahoon to kise chaahoon
akela dil bhari mehfil
akela dil bhari mehfil
Dil ka lagaana iss duniya me poora dhokha khaana hai
haan ye dilwaale haseeno ke deewaane
pyaar karen jhootha ye harzaai parwaane
hain sabhi matlabi
na jaane na samjhe muhabbat hai kyaa
main chaahoon to kise chaahoon
akela dil bhari mehfil
akela dil bhari mehfil
Dil ka lagaana iss duniya me poora dhokha khaana hai
dil to ye chaahe ke meraa bhi koyi ho
main kahaan jaaun jo haasil ye khushi ho
hain sabhi matlabi
na jaane na samjhe muhabbat hai kya
main chaahoon to kise chaahoon
akela dil bhari mehfil
akela dil bhari mehfil
Dil ka lagaana iss duniya mein poora dhokha khaana hai

Thanks. This century was not as fluent as the earlier ones, so this one felt like hard word. Hopefully I have regained my momentum by now.

Not at all. The movie, apart from its star cast, is A grade stuff. The songs, both their audio as well as picturisation, are outstanding.

Thank you, thank you. Hopefully it should take me one month to reach there. But believe me, it still feels like I have just scratched the surface.

Thanks, Raja. You were the first one to comment on this first song of this blog. That was just 13 months ago. 1800 songs in 13 months works out to be a strike rate of 4.5 songs per day for 400 days. This is quite a decent strike rate.
