Aplam chaplam chap laayi re

I thought I had posted this song earlier. I just realised that this song was still missing from the blog.
Words fail me while describing this song. This song is just amazing in many ways. For one, it is a wonderful example of teamwork as well as an example of unity in diversity that Indians represent.
The wonderful dancers are called Sai and Subbalaxmi. They were sisters who were trained Bharatnatyam dancers. The dance they perform is inspired from Bharatnatyam but one could find elements of other types of dances as well. After all, this is a movie dance. This dance is a gentle introduction to Bharatnatyam for movie watchers, many of whom may have been exposed to this dance form for the first time via this song.
To create a suitable Hindi song out of an essentially South Indian dance must have been a challenging task, but Rajinder Krishan made light of this onerous task. He has come up with such smooth , flowing and at the same time perfectly meaningful lyrics.
If dancers were two sisters, then the singers were two sisters too. Yes, Lata and Usha mangeshkar have sung this song. It must be one of the very first and few times in Bollywood movie history that a song was picturised on two sisters and sung by another set of two sisters.
And what could one say about C Ramchandra! He could create western tunes, folk tunes, semi classical tunes, and all that in no time. No other music directors were prepapred to take up the music direction of “Azaad”(1955) because the producerof this movie ,S H S Naidu wanted all the 9 songs of this to be recorded in one month time. C Ramchandra was the only music director who accepted this challenge, and created 9 timeless classic gems, that too within the period of one month.
It is easily one of the all time great songs , and one of the best picturised songs in Bollywood movies.
