Kaanhaa jaa re teri murli ki dhun

Though this song is from a movie of 1961, I first heard this song just a few days ago. And since then, I have come to the conclusion that this song must be one of the greatest songs created in Bollywood movies. And I am really surprised that this song is not all that well known. A song like this should form part of all the “all time classics” that music companies come up with periodically.
This song is from a movie called “Tel Maalish Boot Polish” (1961). Such a C grade name for a C grade movie ! But what an amazing A+ song this movie contains. This song “Kanhaa jaa re” is sung so amazingly well by Lata and Manna Dey that this has to be one of their very best songs in their long and illustrious careers. Prem Dhawan’s lyrics may sound like fait accompli with the benefit of hindsight, but it is obvious that coming up with such superb lyrics takes lots of creativity and ability. And the music director is that hugely underrated Chitragupta.
This song is just an amazing song. One must listen to this song to believe it.
I have no idea who is the male actor who lip syncs in Manna Dey’s voice, but there is no doubt who is the pretty lady who sings in Lata’s voice- and dances. She is that talented and underestimated actress called Kumkum.
PS- The male actor is apparently Chandrashekhar. Very nice disguise this, indeed.

Do you mean to say that the male actor is Chandrashekhar ? Interesting. Yes, in that case it can be called a disguise song as well.

i fully agree with the description you ve given this song. and i think that this song also fits the “disguise” song category coz Chandrasekhar the hero seems to be in disguise “mustache and all”. also the situation seems like that. what say?
