Aahaa badlaa zamaana waah waah badla zamaana

The present generation of people are aware that India became an independent country in 1947 and a democracy in 1950, but it is difficult for them to imagine the changes, trannsformations, upheavals and paradigm shifts that the general poplulation had to suffer in the earlier years of this newly independent nation.
Many old ways had to be given up and new ways and practices had to be adopted. One such thing, about which the present generation may be totally ignorant, was the switchover from British system of measurement to the metric system of measurement. With that, the monetary system also underwent a change. Instead of the usual system where one rupee equalled 64 paise, and there were sub units like aana, pai, etc wre replaced by a new monetary system where one rupee equalled 100 paise, and these were called naye (new) paise, to differentiate them from the old. This transition in monetary system, which now we take for granted, may not have been smooth and painless, because it must have involved massive efforts to educate people about the new monetary system.
This song from “Miss India” (1957) does a public service on this matter. This song explains the new monetary system to the public. I am sure that this song must have played its role in educating people.
This song is sung by Rafi. It is written by Rajinder Krishan. The catchy tune is composed by S D Burman.

I remember this song from my childhood days when the Indian currency decimalisation took place in the 50s.

Very catchy tune. I was 15-16 yrs.old at the time and always hummed this words and try to remember the new/old currency.
Nostalgic moments!

Although I have heard this song many times, I read the discussion here for the first time this morning. The actor singing the song in the picture is I.S. Johar. Not only the story, screenplay and dialogues were by Johar, he also directed the film.
