Ae kaash chalte mil ke
Posted on: September 17, 2009
Just the other day, I posted a song from “Manzil” (1960) where Hemant Kumar had sung a song for Dev Anand.
Here is another song from “Manzil” (1960) which is picturised on Dev Anand. But here the playback singer is different. In this song, Manna Dey sings for Dev Anand. With this, now I have counted as many as five singers whom S D Burman used as voices of Dev Anand. Yes, for those who may have thought that S D Burman was partial to some singers, it may come as an interesting bit of trivia that S D Burman used Talat Mehmood, Rafi, Kishore Kumar, Hemant Kumar and Manna Dey as voices of Dev Anand.
This song in fact is a duet sung by Asha Bhonsle and Manna Dey. It is picturised on Nutan and Dev Anand. Majrooh Sultanpuri is the lyricist.
And it is interesting to note that the entire song is sung without a pause. In other words, this entire song consists of just one stanza, with no musical interludes in between.

I saw this movie a few years ago – with great expectations. Dev and Nutan – one of my fav combinations (Paying Guest, Tere Ghar Ke Saamne, Baarish). It was quite a “heavy” movie – I think that may have worked against it. I love both these actors and yet even I found it a bit heavy and “dragging” on.
Nice song though.

Another song that I remember from my younger days! Of course, you have probably figured out by now that I was a Dev Anand fan in those days, until Rajesh Khanna and Amitabh took his place! Actually, I think this movie was a big flop and so the songs didn’t become popular then, but are finding their way into CDs these days, as more and more people realize the fine quality of these songs.
Thanks, Atul!
