Welcome all to this post. Today we are going to listen to a ‘party’ song from the movie ‘Yaadgaar-1970’.

‘Yaadgaar-1970’ was directed by S. Ram Sharma for ‘Kunal Chitra, Bombay’. It had Nutan, Manoj Kumar, Pran, Prem Chopra, Kamini Kaushal, Junior Mehmood, Madan Puri, Tiwari, Mohan Choti, Lalita Chatterjee, Asit Sen, Lakshmi Chhaya, Shammi, Man Mohan, Polsan, Jayshree, Kuljeet, Renu, Raj Kishore, Harbans Pape, Kirti Behl, Manohar, Naidu, Birbal, Hansraj, Shrinath, Mohan Shery, Dubey, Sabina, Manohar Gosvai, Kesho Rana, Brahm Bharadwaj, Sobti, Alija, Genius, Darshan M., Ravikant, Chandra, Mohan Chhotu, Narbada Shankar, Ramlal and others.

This movie had six songs written by Indeevar and Verma Malik (three songs each).
(One song ‘ik taaraa boley’ is in two parts and it is considered as two songs).

Here is the list of songs of this movie as given in HFGK Vol- IV (1961-1970),

Music for this film was composed by Kalyanji-Anandji.

Today’s song is sung by Asha Bhonsle and it is lip-synced on screen by young Jayshree T. In the movie this song happens at a ‘party’ (held in the name of ‘family gathering’) arranged by Prem Chopra with not so good intentions for Nutan. He tries to misbehave with Nutan.

However, it turns out that his own sister (in the movie) (I am unable to identify this actress) also has to go through the same trauma as Nutan, when actor Raj Kishore misbehaves with her. Of course, this incident takes place after the song and dance performance of Jayshree T is over and almost all members present in the party are already drunk.

So far, five songs (including one multiple version song) from this movie have been posted on the blog.

Today’s song is the sixth and final song of this movie ‘Yaadgaar-1970’ to be posted here on the blog. With this song, ‘Yippeeee’ moment for this movie arrives today.

Let us now listen to today’s song.

Lyrics are by Indeevar, and music is composed by Kalyanji-Anandji.

Hullo Atuldom

“Mehrban” (1967) as spelt in the titles of the movie was an AVM (Madras) production written and directed by A. Bhimsingh. It’s cast was headed by Ashok Kumar, Nutan, Sunil Dutt and had Ramesh Deo, Shyama, Ashim kumar, Jayanthi, Shashikala, Bharathi, Mehmood, Soodesh Kumar and Sulochana Latkar. The dialogues and lyrics were written by Rajinder Kishan and Ravi was the music director. The movie had seven songs of which the blog has the following two.

Song Date of posting
Ae mere dost ae mere hamdam 21 January 2013
Mera gadha gadhon ka leader 9 December 2016

As we can see this movie last made its appearance in 2016 with a wonderful post by Rajaji who was pushed to write by Avinashji. Infact, for the both songs posted, Avinashji was the lyrics contributor.

The 2013 post had a brief synopsis of the movie. It equated the movie to the 1990 David Dhawan directed Rajesh Khanna- Govinda starrer “Swarg”. I happened to see “Mehrbaan” recently and realised that the similarity is limited. Yes, Rajesh Khanna played the rich-man in “Swarg” similar to Ashok Kumar’s character in “Mehrban”. Govinda played the orphan who is devoted to the family similar to Sunil Dutt’s character in “Mehrban”.

The variations in the 1967 movie is that the wealthy couple Shanti Swarup (Ashok Kumar) and Parvati (Sulochana) have three sons and two daughters in addition to being the adoptive parents of Kanhaiya (Sunil Dutt). (In “Swarg” the wealthy couple are childess) They also bring in Laxmi (Nutan) whose parents were known to them and who die leaving Laxmi to fend for herself. So, as we can see it is a full house. That gives the story all kinds of good, bad and ugly characters which helps the writer to gives us a three-hour long movie with lots of ‘rona-dhona’ ‘kasam khana and khilana’ etc. i.e. a highly emotional movie. The end is predictable in that all the family members come together and live happily, once again.

Just remembered another variation between “Swarg” and “Mehrban”. In “Swarg” Krishna (Govinda) becomes rich by acting in movies, buys back the property of his ‘sahabji’ (Rajesh Khanna) and teaches the errant brothers a lesson or two before bringing them back to apologise for all the wrongs that they have done. Kanhaiya of ‘Mehrban’ doesn’t wait to earn riches before coming back to set matters right in the adoptive family. Kanhaiya (Sunil Dutt) has Laxmi (whom he marries before being sent away from the home by Sulochana) for support whereas Krishna does it with the help of his friend ‘Airport’ (Satish Kaushik).
Also, in ‘Swarg’ Sahabji’s wife dies of shock and in ‘Mehrban’ Shanti Swarup dies leaving his wife to the mercy of his ungrateful children.

‘Swarg’ was said to be a remake of ‘Mehrban’ which itself was a remake from the 1960 Tamil hit ‘Padikkadha Medhai’ (Uneducated Genius) which in turn was a remake of the 1953 Bengali movie ‘Jog Biyog’ which was based on the novel of the same name by Ashapurna Devi. So, that means this story will hold good in any time and age.

We are revisiting this movie today with a duet sung by Lata Mangeshkar and Mohd Rafi but (surprise) it is not a romantic song. In fact, the movie doesn’t have any romantic song, in the true sense of the term. There is a Lata Mangeshkar solo which has Nutan pacifying a sad Sunil Dutt. This song relates the story of Shanti Swarup to his grandchildren.

This is one of five movies where Nutan and Sunil Dutt played the lead. As I was looking up the anniversaries tab of the blog I found that the birth-dates of the two were one day apart. I wondered what scenario it would have been, back then, when the shooting of the movies were on. Nutan would have turned 85 on 4th June and Sunil (birth-name Balraj) Dutt would have been 92. Just a passing thought, their sons are actors too and have acted together in a few movies.

Editor’s note-Lyrics of this song, which turns out to be a multiple version song, were sent by Avinash Scrapwala long ago.

apne malik ke kadmon mein ro ro ke
khush hota charan uske dho dho ke
apna tan man nichhavar woh karta raha

# Superstar Child Artist – Junior Mehmood # 9
——————————————————–

Welcome all to the nineth article in this series. In the previous eight posts we have seen songs sung by different singers for Junior Mehmood during late sixtees and early seventees when he was a ‘superstar child sensation’.

The eight songs that we listened earlier were sung by Mohd Rafi(four songs), Lata Mangeshkar(one), Hemlata(one), Shanti Mathur(one) and Asha Bhonsle(one).

Tis series began by exploring songs sung by Rafi Saab for Junior Mehmood when he was ‘child artist and still growing’. Simultaneously we also looked at songs sung by female singers for Junior Mehmood as a ‘child artist’.

It would be interesting to know if there is any song hich as sung by Junior Mehmood for himself. (I am not sure, knowledgeable readers can enlighten us).
Today’s song is one such song, not a full song though, but having few lines sung by Junior Mehmood. In this song he is performing with Manoj Kumar, Nutan, Mohan Choti, Birbal and others.

This song is from the ‘1970’ movie ‘Yaadgaar’.

06 Jis path pe chalaa us path pe mujhe aanchal to bichhaane de… mujhe saath to aane de Lata Mangeshkar 28.11.2011

Music for this film was composed by Kalyanji-Anandji.

As we can see fromthe above table, four songs (including one multiple version song) from this movie have been posted on the blog.

Today’s song is the fifth song of this movie ‘Yaadgaar-1970’ to be posted here on the blog. This will take the movie within striking distance from ‘Yippeeee-land’.

Let us now listen to today’s song.

The situation of the song is self-explanatory. On screen is performed by Manoj Kumar, Nutan, Mohan Choti, Birbal, Junior Mehmood and Kuljeet (I guess the actor lip syncing for Manhar’s voice).

Mahendra Kapoor, Manhar Udhas, Nutan, Junior Mehmood and Birbal have given their voices in this song.
Lyrics are by Verma Malik and music is composed by Kalyanji-Anandji.

Over to the song now …

Blog Day :

4616 Post No. : 16252

Today is the 8th of March.
A date that has an immediate connect with those who love Urdu poetry, and lyrics of Hindi films.

They celebrate it every year as the birth anniversary of one of the giants of 20th century Urdu poetry, and easily one of the most highly regarded lyricists the Hindi film industry has known.

I’m talking about Sahir Ludhianvi, of course.
He is right up there as one of the greatest – and I don’t think anyone disputes this.

It’s no secret to those who have read my previous posts here that I’m a massive fan of Sahir. I’ve written many posts on him here – on practically every birth and death anniversary of his. And even some in between.

And yet today is an extra extra special day.

For it’s not just another birth anniversary of his – it is his birth CENTENARY.

Yes, he was born on 8th March 1921 – in other words, exactly 100 years ago.

I need to take a deep breath here to take in this occasion.

What a momentous one it is!

I suppose a centenary is also an opportunity to take a step back and look at what the person’s influence has been over the period in question.

And that is what I hope to do a little bit of here in this post.

Sahir passed away in 1980 – he was only 59 at the time.

But what a life!

Like Lincoln supposedly said “It’s not the years in your life that count, it’s the life in your years”.

Sahir lived a life that influenced not only people during his lifetime, but is also inspirational for people, like me and many others, 40 years after his death.

(I hope you can hear this from up there, Sahir saab!)

To understand the influence of Sahir, we need to look at him as more than just a poet.
There were poets before him – and there have been poets after him too.
In his own words, “mujhse pehle kitne shaayar aaye aur aakar chale gaye” and “kal aur aayenge naghmon ki khilti kaliyaan chunne waale”.
And it’s true.
And mind you, they have all, in their own ways, been fabulous too.
We should not demean any of their poetic abilities.

And yet where Sahir stands out, even while being exceptional as a poet, is in being exceptional in speaking out against power and oppression.

No one, NO ONE, did it as well as Sahir.
Or as frequently.

And for that, Sahir is in a league of one.

He exemplified the saying “The pen is mightier than the sword” better than any other poet I know, post-independence, with his poetry repeatedly exposing the hypocrisy in Indian society, and the ills prevalent across various sections of it. He railed against patriarchy and misogyny, against capitalists exploiting labour, against the government silencing dissent.

How can you NOT love such a person?

It all probably started early in Sahir’s life, when, having to choose between his rich father and his suffering mother, he chose the latter.

Maybe that was the trigger for him for the rest of his life, because he always spoke up for the poor, the underprivileged, the oppressed, the marginalized.

Of course there’s more to Sahir than just this.
He had amazing variety too.
Romantic songs. The songs of Hum Dono, Taj Mahal, Gumraah, Humraaz, Shagun and Waqt come immediately to my mind.
Philosophical songs. Main zindagi ka saath, aage bhi jaane na tu, mann ri tu kaahe na dheer dhare, kabhi khud pe…
Bhajans. Aan milo aan milo Shyam saanvre , Allah tero naam and tora mann darpan kehlaaye come to mind.
Qawwalis. Songs of Barsaat Ki Raat and Taj Mahal, for example.
Songs on mother-child relationship – Mujhe Jeene Do, Dhool Ka Phool and Trishul, among others.
Pure fun, zany songs. Sar jo tera chakraaye, aye meri topi palat ke aa.

Each one a gem.

And yet, as I look back on this centenary occasion, it is Sahir’s songs that speak of society, and speak TO society, that I would consider as his most significant and lasting influence.

Without them too, he would be a GREAT poet, no doubt.
But with them, he elevates himself from being just a great poet, to being a decent and conscious human being.

And that to me is far more important than anything else.

So let’s quickly run through some of his poetry where he talks about, or, to, society.
There are many songs of course, but I’ll just mention a few here.

Ye kooche ye neelaam ghar dilkashi ke – Pyaasa (1957)
Ye mehlon ye takhton – Pyaasa (1957)
Saathi haath badhaana – Naya Daur (1957)
Aurat ne janam diya mardon ko – Sadhna (1958)
Tu Hindu banega na Musalmaan banega – Dhool Ka Phool (1959)
Wo subah kabhi to aayegi – Phir Subah Hogi (1958)
Cheen-o-Arab hamaara – Phir Subah Hogi (1958)
Khuda-e-bartar – Taj Mahal (1963)
Na munh chhupa ke jiyo – Humraaz (1967)
Ponchh kar ashq apni aankhon se – Naya Raasta (1970)
Samaj ko badal daalo – Samaj Ko Badal Daalo (1970)

Sahir’s lyrics for such songs were piercing – they went straight to the heart.
It was as if he was pouring out his agony, venting his frustration at society. Showing it a mirror, exposing its hypocrisy.

For example, these seemingly innocuous lines (Sadhna-1958):

kaho jee tum kya kya khareedoge
yahaan to har cheez bikti hai

mohabbat bechti hoon main
sharaafat bechti hoon main
na ho ghairat to le jo
ki ghairat bechti hoon main

Powerful.

Of course, it was not always doom and gloom in his lyrics.
Even while he was critical of society and its ills, he also wrote uplifting lyrics, with hope in them.
Like na munh chhupa ke jiyo , ponchh kar ashq, wo subah kabhi to aayegi mentioned above.
So it’s a combination of frustration and hope – which is probably a pretty accurate representation of his own personality. 🙂
Sahir was himself known to be fairly moody – cheerful one moment, morose the next.

I can keep on and on about Sahir and his songs – I haven’t even scratched the surface.
I haven’t even talked about gems like “pyar par bas to nahin” – Sone Ki Chidiya (1958). But then, one really can’t do justice to Sahir in one post.

So I’m going to force myself to move on – and get to the song for this post.

Before I get to the song, one other thing.

Today, the 8th of March, is also celebrated as International Women’s Day.

It is such a coincidence that both Sahir’s birth date and this date are the same.

Or was it pre-ordained in a sense, because if there was one person who regularly spoke up for women, their rights, how they’ve been oppressed, it was Sahir.

Aurat ne janam diya mardon ko from Sadhna-1958 is of course one of Hindi cinema’s classics. I’ve heard this song many times – and every time it gives me a punch in the gut.

But there were other lesser-known songs too.

And this song which I’m posting today is in that category.

It is from Jiyo Aur Jeene Do (1982).

Since Sahir passed away in 1980, I’m presuming this was one of his last few songs.
Or maybe he had written this earlier, but it got used only later in this film.

Anyway, as usual, it is Avinashji who has helped me with this.
He sent me the lyrics – and, considering it is Sahir’s Day AND Woman’s Day today, it seems to be just the right song for the occasion.

I haven’t seen the film, so I can’t comment about the situation, but the words of the song are powerful – and typically Sahir.

As usual, he talks about exploitation of women in Indian society.
And he references often to Seeta to bring home his point.
How women even today have to go through Agni Pariksha like Seeta had to.
How every woman is expected to just accept oppression without protest.
How even Seeta, who accompanied Ram during his exile, had to listen to his admonition of her.
How a woman can be expected to save herself in a world that has been created for man.
How, when even Ram could be influenced against Seeta, what hope for mere mortals?
How it is the lot of women like Seeta to be born in every era only to bear the burdens of this world.

I must admit the lyrics are very depressing.
Possibly some of the most depressing I have ever come across.
And I’d really like to think the lyrics are also highly exaggerated, and this isn’t today’s reality anyway. After all these lyrics are from more than 40 years ago, and a lot has changed since.

Or has it?

Yes, on one level, it has.
Many more women are better off today than they were 40 years ago.
More educated, more independent.
And yet, most of these are probably from middle- or upper classes of society.
(And even amongst them, there are many horror stories that don’t come to light).
But beyond these, there are many millions of women in India for whom life is a daily struggle.
From the moment they wake up early in the morning, to the moment they finally go to sleep that night, it is a day of just work, work and work. Women are taken so much for granted that society expects nothing less from them.
A woman just relaxing or enjoying herself is a rare sight – it almost seems out of place.
And so many women (especially among the poor) have sadly internalized this lifestyle of struggle, so they think it’s the most normal thing to do.
And I haven’t even talked about women’s safety here – that’s another minefield of a topic where, thanks to men, women don’t feel safe at all anytime during the day, every single day of their lives.
As a man, enjoying freedom that I take for granted, I just cannot imagine how it must be to live like this. All one’s life.

So yes, LOTS to think about.
And LOTS of work to do.
And the ball is in the court of MEN, not WOMEN.
For the simple reason that the cause of the problem is MEN, not WOMEN.

So then I think, however depressing the lyrics of this Sahir song are, are they more depressing than the actual lives of many women in India?

Anyway, this is supposed to be a day of celebration – I do not want to spoil the mood.
And yet, I cannot pretend – so if you don’t mind, I’d like it to be treated as a day of reflection for men too. Sahir would’ve liked that.

Thank you, Sahir saab, for your searing poetry. And for always standing up for the oppressed, and raising awareness on the right issues.
It is entirely our failing as a society that we have failed to make the lyrics you wrote all those decades ago irrelevant.
They are just as relevant today as they were when they were written.

And on that extremely sobering note, let me now end this post.
Thank you for reading.

Lyrics(Provided by Avinash Scrapwala)

Chup chup apni jaan pe sah jaa aa aa
Duniya ka anyaay
Koyi nahin is dharti par

Man ko dheeraj ki shikshaa de
Seeta ke liye likha hai yahi

Gairon ke kadwe bol sune
Apnon ka atyaachaar sahe
Gairon ke ae kadwe bol sune
Apnon ka atyaachaar sahe
Jis Raam ke sang ban ban bhatke
Us Raam ki bhi dutkaar sahe
Dharti mein samaane se pehle
Dharti mein samaane se pehle
Dharti ki tarah har bhaar sahe
Seeta ke liye likkha hai yahi

Purushon ki banaayi duniyaa mein
Kya ik naari ka maan bache
Purushon ki banaayi ee duniyaa mein
Kya ik naari ka maan bache
Jis zahar se Raam ka man na bachaa
Us zahar se kya insaan bache
Jo reet yugon se jaari hai
Jo reet yugon se jaari hai
Us reet se kaise jaan bache
Seeta ke liye likkha hai yahi

Aa aa aa
Aa aa aa aa aa
Aa aa aa aa aa
Aa aa aa aa aa aa aa

Is andhi bahri nagari mein
Jab jab Seeta ko aana hai
Is andhi bahri nagari mein
Jab jab Seeta ko aana hai
Jeete ji kasht uthhaana
Marne pe sati kahlaana hai
Marne ae pe sati kahlaana hai
Itihaas ke pannon ko sadiyon
Itihaas ke pannon ko sadiyon
Yoon hi ye katha dohraana hai
Seeta ke liye likkha hai yahi
Har yug mein ae agnipareekshaa de
Dukh sah ke bhi mukh se kuchh na kahe
Man ko dheeraj ki shikshaa de
Seeta ke liye likha hai yahi

It can be seen from the table of 1966 that Lata Mangeshkar sang 133 songs in movies released in 1966.

As many as 104 of these 133 songs have already been covered in the blog. Out of 49 movies of 1966 where Lata Mangeshkar sang, all Lata Mangeshkar songs of 33 movies are already covered. So we only have 29 Lata songs belonging to 16 movies of 1966 that are not yet covered in the blog.

Alphabetically the first such movie that offers us Lata Mangeshkar songs to discuss is “Chhota Bhai”(1966). This social movie was directed by K P Atma for Olympic Pictures, Bombay. The movie had Nutan, Rehman, Mahesh Kumar, Lalita Paar, Nazeer Hussain, Jageerdar, Randheer, Sulichana, Chatterjee etc in it.

The movie had six songs in it, including four Lata Mangeshkar songs- all being solos. Three songs from the movie (including two Lata Mangeshkar songs) have been covered in the past.

Here is the third Lata Mangeshkar song from “Chhota Bhai”(1965). Anand Bakshi is the lyricist. Music is composed by Laxmikant Pyarelal.

Only the audio of the song is available. Going by the picturisation of the other Lata songs in the movie, the song is undoubtedly lip synced by Nutan. Nevertheless, I request our knowledgeable readers to throw light on the picturisation of the song.

Song-Diya jaage saari raina nindiya na aaye (Chhota Bhai)(1966) Singer-Lata, Lyrics-Anand Bakshi, MD-Laxmikant Pyarelal

Lyrics

diyaa jaage saari rainaa
nindiyaa na aaye

sapnaa nahin koi sang kiran ke
geet nahin koi paas pavan ke

sapnaa nahin koi sang kiran ke
soye bhalaa kaise phool chaman ke ae

main apni palakon kaa palanaa banaaun
aa aa aa aa
lallaa lalaa lori gaake sunaaun
mai teri nindiyaa ko kaise bulaaun
teri tarah vo bhi maane na kehnaa
nindiyaa na aaye

diyaa jage saari rainaa
nindiyaa na aaye
nindiyaa na aaye
nindiyaa na aaye

Blog 10-Year Challenge (2010-2020) – Song No. 87
———————————————————————————–

Welcome all to the ‘Blog Ten-Year Challenge’ series where today we will have a song after a gap of almost a month. Last song posted under the ‘challenge’ was on 25.09.2020.

We missed some opportunities, but today hopefully we will have two songs in this challenge.

If we see the songs posted ten years back on this day (20.10.2010), we had only three posts on that day as given below;

Song Movie title-Year Remarks
Aaj mere naseeb ne mujhko rulaa rulaa diyaa Halchal-1951 All songs covered
Bhajan binaa baawre Rooplekha-1962 03 songs posted
Ham to muhabaat karegaa Dilli Ka Thug-1958 05 songs posted

So, one can see that the rate of posting had come down to averaging three posts a day unlike what it was during August’2010 and Septemeber’2010 where we saw the blog maintaining average six posts per day.

In this current month of October’2020 so far we have seen forty-seven posts till 19.10.2020 (i.e. averaging just little over two posts per day).

So, I was curious to check how the blog had been doing in the month of ‘October’ till now and here we have the details;

SNo. Month-Year Total no of posts Average per day
01 Oct’2008 76 2.45
02 Oct’2009 100 3.22
03 Oct’2010 109 3.52
04 Oct’2011 191 6.16
05 Oct’2012 168 5.42
06 Oct’2013 122 3.93
07 Oct’2014 108 3.48
08 Oct’2015 82 2.64
09 Oct’2016 93 3.00
10 Oct’2017 64 2.06
11 Oct’2018 61 1.97
12 Oct’2019 43 1.38

We can from the above details that in the current month the blog is still maintaining a better ‘run-rate’ (post-rate 😊) and we yesterday it saw as many as five posts occurring over the day.

Coming back to the today’s movies, today we have two movies viz. “Dilli Ka Thug-1958” and “Rooplekha-1962” eligible for posting a song under the ‘Blog Ten-Year Challenge-2010-2020’

I am presenting a song from ‘Dilli Ka Thug-1958’.

This movie was directed by S.D. Narang for ‘New Oriental Pictures, Bombay’.

It had Kishore Kumar, Nutan, Smriti Biswas, Amar, Madan Puri, Iftekhar, Krishnakant, Protima Devi, Ramlal, Mirajkar, Kathana, Amrit Rana, Heera, Kumud Tripathi, Shakuntala, Master Raj, Tun Tun, Ratan Gaurang, Bela Parmanik, Haroon, A.K. Tiwari, Tamoa, Madan Khanna, Nirula, Rajkumar, P. Mukherjee, Brahm Bharadwaj, Tanveer, Uma Dutt, Mouji and others.

This movie was passed by Censor Board on 20.11.1958. The movie was again re-certified with some parts of the movie in colours on 15.09.1959.

This movie had total eight songs composed by Ravi written by three lyricists Shailendra, S.H. Bihari and Majrooh Sultanpuri.

Let us have a look (this time a little differently) on this movies’ songs as they appear on the movie page in HFGK Vol-III (1951-1960) which generally are in order of their appearance on the screen as mentioned in HFGK.
The songs posted so far have been given with their links and the lyricist for each song and its date of posting (wherever the song is posted on the blog) is also given.

As a Blog Ten year challenge offering, here is a song from “Dilli Ka Thug”(1958). This song is sung by Asha Bhonsle. S H Bihari is the lyricist. Music is composed by Ravi.

The song is picturised as a stage dance song on Nutan and others.

Today as part of “Blog Ten Year Cahllenge”, here is another song from “Chhota Bhai”(1966). The song is sung by Lata. Anand Bakshi is the lyricist. Music is composed by Laxnikant Pyarelal.

HFGK mentions this song as just one song. But the movie has this song in two versions-happy version and sad version. In both versions some unidentified voice can also be heard.
Both versions are lip synced by Nutan. Rehman, Mahesh Kumar and Lata Sinha can also be seen in both versions. Lalita Pawar is visible in the sad version.

Lyrics of the song and other details were sent by Prakashchandra.

Blog Day :

4407 Post No. : 15795

Today (11 August 2020) happens to be Janmashtmi, the day Lord Krishna, the avatar of Lord Vishnu was born in the Dwapar Yug. His earlier avatar was in the Treata Yug and that was as Lord Ram, and the birthday of Lord Ram is called Ramnavami.

Lord Ram was a serious, sombre, idealism personifieed avatar of Lord Vishnu whereas Lord Krishna was a playful, more human like avatar. Playful and non serious he may be, but he meant business when the situation so demanded. And do not fiorget, it is Lord Vishnu, who gave us Bhagwatgeeta ka gyaan.

It should come as no surprise to note that Lord Krishna has been a favourite God of Hindi movies and there have been a good number of Lord Krishn related songs in Hindi movies.

On every Janmashtmi, we feature at least one Lord Krishn related song. The first janmashtmi of the blog saw the occasion getting celebrated with the popular song Shyaam teri bansi pukaare Radha naam (Geet Gaata Chal). Next janmashtmi in 2009 saw an out and out iconic janmashtmi song viz Govinda aal re aalaa zara matki sambhaal brijbaala (Bluffmaster) getting discussed.

If one thinks that we have run out of Lord Krishn related songs for this janmashtmi, now that it is the 13th janmashtmi occasiobn for the blog, one cannot be more wrong.

Here is a fantastic Lord Krishn related song from “Khaandan”(1965). This song is sung by Rafi and chorus. The song begins with a stuti, which sounds like the voice of Ravi to me. Lyrics are by Rajinder Krishan. Music is composed by Ravi, a ceator of iconic songs (my description for him).

The song is picturised on Sunil Dutt, with lots of other devotees engaged in the song and dance celebration, including Nutan, and Omprakash. It is Omprakash, who starts the bhajan singing the Sanskrit stuti.

Incidentally, some places in India celebrate Janmashtmi tomorrrow (12 August 2020), but UP people should know better, because Lord Krishn was born in these parts. :). According to UP calendars, it falls today. May be it falls in night, seeing that Lord Krishna was born at night.

Lyrics of the song were sent to me by Avinash Scrapwala.

———————————————–————————————
Blog 10-Year Challenge (2010-2020) – Song No. 44
———————————————————————————–

Ten years back on this day , viz on 28th July 2010, the blog saw as many as six songs being represented as given below;

Song Movie title-Year Remarks
Meri zindagi mein aate to kuchh aur baat hoti Kanyaadaan-1968 All songs covered
Tumhi mere mandir tumhi meri pooja tumhi devtaa ho Khaandaan-1965 Five songs posted

Meri duniyaa lut rahi thi aur main khaamosh thaa Mr and Mrs 55- 1955 All songs covered
Jaayen to jaayen kahaan Taxi Driver -1954 All songs covered

Out of the six movies represented on the blog on that day five movies viz. ‘Kanyaadaan-1968’, ‘Sehra-1963’, ‘Nau Do Gyaarah-1957’, ‘Mr and Mrs 55-1955’, and ‘Taxi Driver-1954’ all their songs have already been covered and they have already landed in ‘Yipeeeee’ land. 😊

That leaves us only one movie i.e. ‘Khaandaan-1965’ which is still eligible to be considered for the ‘blog ten-year challenge’.

Though I am regularly browsing the blog, I failed to notice that three songs of this movie ‘Khaandaan-1965’ were yet to be covered. This discovery came as a big surprise for me. I had a ‘bigger’ ‘surprise’ waiting for me, But they will be discussed some other time. For the time being, we will come directly to the today’s song and post.

‘Khaandaan-1965’ or ‘Khandan-1965’ was directed by A. Bhim Singh for ‘Vasu Films, Madras’. S. Ramanathan was the associate director of this movie and A. Hussain was his assistant. This movie was produced by Vasu Menon. It had Sunil Dutt, Nutan, Pran, Soodesh Kumar, Manmohan Krishna, Mohan Choti and Om Prakash, supported by Ravikant, Arundev, Mumtaz, Sulochana Chatterjee and Lalita Pawar.

Story of this movie was written by M.S. Solaimalai and dialogues were written by Rajinder Krishan who also wrote the lyrics for the songs in this movie.

A. Bhim Singh who was the director of the movie wrote the screenplay of this movie and he was also the editing supervisor of this movie. A. Pauldoraisingam was the editor of this movie.
N.S. Bedi was the Dialogue Instructor for this movie.

This movie had eight songs written by Rajinder Krishan and music was composed by Ravi. Lata Mangeshkar, Asha Bhonsle, Usha Mangeshkar, Manna Dey and Mohd Rafi had given their voices to the songs in this movie.

So far, the following five songs from “Khaandaan-1965” have been posted on the blog;

Today’s song is the sixth song from this movie being presented on the blog. This enjoyable ‘teasing’ song is sung by Mohd Rafi and Asha Bhonsle and picturised on Sunil Dutt and Nutan in a ‘village fair’ or ‘mela’ set up where many other artists can also be seen participating in the picturization of this song.

Let us now enjoy today’s song …

Blog 10-Year Challenge (2010-2020) – Song No. 37
—————————————————————————

The blog saw only two posts on this day ten years ago on 19 june 2010. In contrast, today (19 june 2020) saw two posts getting published simultaneously early morning at 5 AM ! And this is going to be the third post for the day !

The two songs discussed on the blog on 19.06.2010 were:-

Song Movie title-Year Remarks
Saat samundar paar ke … gudiyon ke bazaar se Taqdeer-1967 All songs covered

“Taqdeer”(1967) has already been YIPPEED. “Zindagi Ya Toofaan”(1958) had made its debut ten years ago. This movie was produced and directed by Nakshab. The movie had Nutan, Pradeep Kumar, Johnny Walkar, Om Prakash, Yakub, Minoo Mumtaz, Lotan, Sangeeta, Amar, Shakeel, Vikram Kapoor, Nazirbai, Qaisarbai, Sagar, H.Prakash, Jagoo, Dayabai, Indira, Jaffri, Suresh(Guest Artist) etc in it.

“Zindagi Ya Toofaan”(1958) had ten songs in it. Eight songs have been covered in the past. Here are the songs from the movie that have been covered so far :-

Two songs from “Zindagi Yaa Toofaan”(198) are left. Our regular contributors were threatening to send a song on the occasion of blog ten year challenge and I was dreading that they should not send the “wrong” song. Fortunately our contributors, viz Prakashchandra and Avinash Scrapwala have sent the “right” song for the occasion. This song is sung by Asha Bhonsle and Talat Mehmood. Nakshab is the lyricist. Music is composed by Naashaad.

The song is picturised on Nutan and Pradeep Kumar.

With this song, nine songs out of ten are covered in the blog. The one song left in the blog is a special song (one that I was hoping was not sent for today’s occasion), which I will cover at an opportune date (already identified). The lyrics of this song are already sent to me.
