Ye duniya hai yahaan dil ka lagaana kisko aata hai

Posted on: September 17, 2009

I had commented in the past that S D Burman had used many singers to sing for Dev Anand. In addition to Kishore Kumar and Rafi, S D Burman used the voice of Hemant Kumar and Manna Dey as play back singers for Dev saab. If one looks at movies of 1940s, one finds that some more singers sang for Dev Anand.

For instance, Anil Biswas used the voice of Shankar Dasgupta in “Jeet”(1949). Here is a movie of the same year viz “Shair” (1949). Here Mukesh sings for Dev Anand.

This song in fact is sung by Lata and Mukesh and picturised on Kamini Kaushal and Dev Anand. Shakeel Badayuni is the lyricist and Ghulam Mohammed composed the music.

Song-Ye duniya hai yahaan dil kaa lagaana kisko aata hai (Shair) (1949) Singers-Lata, Mukesh, Lyrics-Shakeel Badayuni, MD-Ghulam Mohammed

Lyrics

ye duniyaa hai
ye duniyaa hai
ye duniyaa hai yahaan dil kaa lagaanaa kis ko aataa hai
ye duniyaa hai yahaan dil kaa lagaanaa kis ko aataa hai
hazaaron pyaar karte hain
hazaaron pyaar karte hain
nibhaanaa kis ko aataa hai

ye duniyaa hai yahaan dil mein samaanaa kis ko aataa hai
ye duniyaa hai yahaan dil mein samaanaa kis ko aataa hai
mitaane waale laakhon hain
mitaane waale laakhon hain
banaanaa kis ko aataa hai
ye duniyaa hai

nigaahen pher li tumne
to ham kiski taraf dekhen
kiski taraf dekhen
tumhi kah do
muhabbat kaa fasaanaa
kis ko aataa hai
ye duniyaa hai

wafaa kaa yoon to dam bharte hain is duniyaa mein sab lekin
duniyaa mein sab lekin
wafaa ke naam par mit kar
dikhaanaa kis ko aataa hai
hazaaron pyaar karte hain
hazaaron pyaar karte hain
nibhaanaa kis ko aataa hai
ye duniyaa hai
yahaan dil kaa lagaanaa kisko aataa hai
ye duniyaa hai

If my memory is right, there is a song-” Laayi Khushi Ki Duniya” sung by MUKESH & Suraiya, and picturised on Suraiya & Dev Anand. I am not able to recollect the film, nor the name of music director.

Many of the old duets had simple lyrics (Could be in any Indian Language), set to good tunes, using less musical instruments by the music directors then, that made them easy to hum by those cine goers who had taste for songs but had no voice. They use to hum only the first line of the song repeatedly at intervals while doing household chores, much to the amusement of their family members. Such was the appeal of music in that era.
