The more songs I post, the more I realise how small is the collection of songs in this blog vis a vis the sheer volume of quality songs that are not yet covered. I am approaching 2000 songs in this blog, but I feel that I have only scratched the surface so far.
Here is this song from “Aawaara” (1951) which was just one of those countless songs that had not yet been posted here.
This song is sung wonderfully well by Lata , and that too seemingly effortlessly. Hasrat Jaipuri’s lyrics are superb, and the understated music of this song creates a perfect backdrop for this song. This is a quintessential chaayaageet song.
The song is picturised on Nargis. It begins as a piano song, but soon the piano is forgotten. Bein separated from ones beloved and missing him- this feeling is conveyed wonderfully well in this song. The listener can feel it even today, some six decades after this song was created. This song is a result of sheer genius. No wonder, this song has gone on to become a timeless classic.
