I have posted several songs from “Shahjahaan” (1946), but even I was not aware of this gem.
This song is sung by Shamshad Begam. what clear voice and what clear diction ! And moreover, what nice lyrics from Majrooh Sultanpuri (debutant lyricist) who was working with Naushad for the first time.
I am not sure who is the actress who lip syncs this song on screen. But I am sure that this song is a wonderful song from a memorable movie.
PS-She is Sulochana Chatterji. I thank Greta (Memsaab) for this trivia which I on my own can never find out, seeing how incompetent I am at recognising old actresses.

I think the actress lip-synching is Sulochana Chatterji. The actress who plays Mumtaz (also seen onscreen) is Ragini. The other main female in this film was played by Nasreen, who was Rafiq Ghaznavi’s daughter from his second wife and herself the mother of actress Salma Agha.
I’m just full of information today, aren’t I? 😉
