Ye hawa ye mastaana mausam

“Akeli Mat Jaiyyo” (1963) was one of those movies that failed at the box office despite boasting of names like Rajendra “Jubilee” Kumar and Meena Kumari. Madan Mohan yet again had the mortification of watching his music go down the drain because his songs from this movie failed to take off as a result of the failure of this movie.
Here is a lovely song from this movie which I heard for the first time only just now- more than 46 years after this song must have been created. It is a lovely song written by Majrooh Sultanpuri and sung by Rafi and Lata. This song is picturised as a roimantic song on Rajendra Kumar and Meena Kumari.
This song is one of the forgotten gems that deserve to be better known.

ye hawa ye mastaana mausam
dil ko phir karaar aaya
ye hawa ye mastaana mausam
dil ko phir karaar aaya
jhoom banke deewaana ae dil
tujhpe unko pyaar aaya
jhoom banke deewaana ae dil
tujhpe unko pyaar aaya
ye hawa ye mastaana mausam
lahraake tera aanchal
udta hai rang banke
lahraake tera aanchal
udta hai rang banke
yoon hi dil mein aate rahna
dil ki umang banke
sun o kali teri gali
deewaana baar baar aaya
ye hawa ye mastaana mausam
dil ko phir karaar aaya
jhoom banke deewaana ae dil
tujhpe unko pyaar aaya
ye hawa ye mastaana mausam
itni haseen hai duniya
dekho meri nazar se
itni haseen hai duniya
dekho meri nazar se
ruk jaati hain bahaaren
chalte hain ham jidhar se
khoyi huyi janaat mili
aankhon ko aitbaar aaya
jhoom banke deewaana ae dil
tujhpe unko pyaar aaya
ye hawa ye mastaana mausam
dil ko phir karaar aaya
ye hawa ye mastaana mausam
beete wo din ke jab ham
manzil ko dhoondhte the
beete wo din ke jab ham
manzil ko dhoondhte the
dil ham ko dhoondhtaa tha
ham dil ko dhoondhte the
phir dil mile phir gulkhile
matwaalon par khumaar aaya
ye hawa ye mastaana mausam
dil ko phir karaar aaya
jhoom banke deewaana ae dil
tujhpe unko pyaar aaya
ye hawa ye mastaana mausam

I remember hearing this song once upon a time! However, the song appears to be a tonga song, but is unrealistically filmed. Neither character seems to be affected by the tonga’s movements, unlike in the song from Naya Daur, Maangke saath tumhara …, which gave the viewer the feeling that they were really on the tonga. It is a pity that such a beautiful song was filmed so poorly, on two old and tired looking people.
