I have mentioned it many a times and I need to mention it again, that many of the well known iconic songs of Bollywood, whatever be their topics, are the creations of Ravi, though many people may not be aware of this fact.
Ravi tended to create many great songs in any movie where he was the music director. Take the movie “Chaudhvin ka chaand”( 1960) for example. Now, is there any song in this movie that has not become an iconic song ? Each and every song of this movie has gone on to become a timeless classic.
Here is an immortal qawwali from this movie. Though it is a qawwali talking about husn and ishq, it is a qawwali where only females participate,in line wit the conservative society of 1960 that this movie depicts.
The qawwali talks about the feelings of “parda nasheen” (veiled) girls, who are always conscious and keep fidgeting with their “aanchal”, and about their adirers wh try to sneak a view of them surreptitiously. Watching them in this manner is not a gentlemanly conduct, the ladies state.
Taking up cudgels on behalf of the other gender, a lady states that beauty alone will have no value, but for their admirers, so let these admirers be given the respect and consideration that they deserve.
The lyrics in fact are quite interesting and I need to translate such gems so that many more people may be able to appreciate this qawwali.
The singers are Shamshad Begam Asha Bhonsle and chorus. As mentioned earlier, this qawwali is one of the immortal qawwalis from Bollywood movies. It has been picturised nicely on Waheeda Rehman and other ladies. If I do not mentione others, then it is because I do not recognise them by name. Simple ! I hope my readers will tell me who the other actors in this qawwali are.

Nice qawwali. Shakeel/Ravi were able to match Sahir/Roshan here.

Yes, Ravi was in the same laugue when it came to creating qawwalis. In fact, Ravi was especially chosen by Guru Dutt to compose music for this movie sice Guru Dutt regarded Ravi as the best music director for a movie for such themes.
