“Raakhi” (1962) was produced by Siva H Ganeshan and it directed by a Bhimsingh for Prabhuram Pictures, Madras. The movie had Ashok Kumar, Waheeda Rehman, Pradeep Kumar, Mehmood, Ameeta, Malika, Lalita Pawar, Raj Mehra, Randhir, Madan Puri, Shivraj, Mohan Choti, Umesh Sharma etc in it.

This movie had one theme song dedicated to the festival of Rakhi. But other songs of the movie were more or less wedding related songs. So “Shaadi” could have been as good a title as any for this movie. 🙂 One movie of this titles was actually made that year, so may be the makers of this movie were forced to use an alternative title. 🙂

The movie had eight songs in it. Seven of these songs have been covered in the past. Here are their details.

Here is the eighth and final song from “Raakhi” (1962) to appear in the blog. This song is a post wedding song sung from nanad’s point of view. The song is sung by Lata. Rajinder Krishan is the lyricist. Music is composed by Ravi.

The song is lip synced by Waheeda Rehman playing nanad for Ameeta playing the bhaabhi married to Ashok Kumar.

The audio version of the song differs somewhat from the video version towards the last few lines.

With this song, “Raakhi” (1962) joins the list of movies that have all their songs covered in the blog.

“Raakhi” (1962) was produced by Siva H Ganeshan and directed by a Bhimsingh for Prabhuram Pictures, Madras. The movie had Ashok Kumar, Waheeda Rehman, Pradeep Kumar, Mehmood, Ameeta, Malika, Lalita Pawar, Raj Mehra, Randhir, Madan Puri, Shivraj, Mohan Choti, Umesh Sharma etc in it.

This archtypically melodramatic movie had one theme song dedicated to the festival of Rakhi, but other songs from the movie were apparently all wedding songs of different nature- viz from the point of view of the bride, from the point of view of the sister in law etc.

Here is the “baabul ka chhootna” genre of wedding song from “Raakhi” (1962). The song is sung by Lata. Rajinder Krishan is the lyricidt. Music is composed by Ravi. This lyricist-Music director duo have given us several great wedding songs, and this song is one of them.

The song is picturised as a background bidaai song as Waheeda Rehman, after being married off to Pradeep Kumar is deparing in a doli, looked on by Ashok Kumar, playing dulhan ka bhai.

Song-Baabul chhoot chala tera angna (Raakhi)(1962) Singer-Lata, Lyrics-Rajinder Krishan, MD-Ravi

Lyrics

Baabul chhoot chala tera angna
Baabul chhoot chala tera angna
le ke chali tan saja sajaaya
chhod chali man apna
Baabul chhoot chala tera angna
Baabul chhoot chala tera angna

haath huye kya peele mere
ho gayi main to paraayi
haath huye kya peele mere
ho gayi main to paraayi
shahnaayi ki goonj mein kho gayi
baabul meri duhaayi
dil bhi mera tab tab dhadke
jab jab khanke kangna
Baabul chhoot chala tera angna
Baabul chhoot chala tera angna
le ke chali tan saja sajaaya
chhod chali man apna
Baabul chhoot chala tera angna
Baabul chhoot chala tera angna

jis angna mein bhaiyya ke sang
bachpan mera khela
jis angna mein bhaiyya ke sang
bachpan mera khela
us angna mein aaj khada hai
bhaiyya mera akela
jaagti aankhon dekh raha hai
mere sukh ka sapna
Baabul chhoot chala tera angna
Baabul chhoot chala tera angna
le ke chali tan saja sajaaya
chhod chali man apna
Baabul chhoot chala tera angna
Baabul chhoot chala tera angna

Piya Tune Kya Kiya Re, Tere Bin Laage Na Jiya” – this post in 2008 by Atul ji inspired me to sit through an otherwise serious (read boring) movie. In the post Atul ji had written 3 postscripts each after different stages of movie watching and getting more gyaan about the movie. There is nothing more to add about the movie if one reads that particular post.

We just have one more song left of this movie – the song which Deb Mukherjee sings in the voice of Kishore Kumar and Farida Jalal in Lata’s voice. The song comes close to the climax as Deb Mukherjee bids farewell to the doctor, nurses, ward boys (through the movie I didn’t see a single nurse or ward boy; they appear for this song), compounder and the other patients of the hospital. The song is supposed to inspire the patients that they will also recover from their illnesses. The patients have been depressed after Ashok Kumar dies in the hospital – not the doctor’s fault mind you, he didn’t obey the doctor.

The song also expresses Waheeda’s and Sunil Dutt’s feelings towards each other as they can’t sing and dance themselves. She is a widow and the mother of a child, who is being treated by the doctor (Sunil Dutt). Here I will also add that they were in love before Waheeda’s chacha (Gajanan Jagirdar) and chachi (Shyama) objected to their marriage as they belong to different castes. Waheeda gets married to some railway engineer; whose face is never shown and who dies in a freak railway accident.

The film is directed by Tapan Sinha for John Pictures, Bombay. The film has seven songs, all penned by Anand Bakshi. The music is given by SD Burman. The earlier posted songs of this film are,

Zindagi Ae Zindagi Tere Hain Do Roop 45 29-Aug-08
Piya Toone Kya Kiyaa 47 30-Aug-08
Mera Sab Kuchh Mere Geet Re 6131 25-Jun-12
Toone Hamen Kya Diyaa Ree Zindagi 12301 4-Aug-16
Teri Meri Meri Teri Zaat Kyaa Hai 13311 6-Jun-17
Kaun Sachcha Hai Kaun Jhoothha Hai 13992 30-Jan-2018

This is the ideal song to announce the Yippeee status of this film. ‘Zindagi Zindagi’ now joins the tribe of movies on our blog that has all its songs represented here.

Song – Khush Raho Saathiyo Tumhen Chhod Kar Hum Chale (Zindagi Zindagi) (1972) Singer – Kishore Kumar, Lata Mangeshkar, Lyrics – Anand Bakshi, MD – SD Burman

These days Sudhir Ji has taken up the responsibility of posting most of the articles. According to the new year resolution set for the blog in 2017, one of these posts must introduce a debutant movie whereas another post must go to the other extreme, viz cause a movie to achieve its YIPPEEhood.

As can be seen, one debutant movie- “Aangan”(1973) has already been discussed in the blog today. So it is the YIPPEE post of the day that is awaited so far.

I have noticed that Sudhir Ji has made preparations for a YIPPEE song for the day, but he is not yet logged in again. In case, he logs in and posts this YIPPEE post, the YIPPEE resolution for the year will continue to be fulfillled. But just in case Sudhir Ji gets preoccupied and is unable to post this article in time, I have kept another YIPPEE song ready for the day.

“Mere paas Maa hai …”

“Of all the rights of women, the greatest is to be a mother’ so today on the international day of women, we pay our tributes to women and the ‘mother’ in them.

“Swami Tinhi Jagaacha Aai vina Bhikaari” …

Goes the lines are from a poem in ‘Marathi’, it means that… Even the lord of all the ‘three worlds’ is a beggar without a Mother…

Yes, every one of us understands the value of this word ‘mother’ and the value of her unconditional love she showers on us. How she cares for her child, how she serves a child for his whole life till she is alive.
Those who have been fortunate to have a mother and also those who are deprived of a mother’s love know very well the value of this word ‘mother’.
