I had never heard this song before. I heard this song for the first time only just now. And what a song it is.
This song is a sentimental song of “chal ud ja re panchhi” genre. Meena Kumari is leaving her familiar world behind for ever. Her feelings are expressed in this song. This song is sung not by a female voice, but in a male voice. This song is sung by Rafi just like the “chal ud ja re panchhi” song was sung by Rafi. Incidentally the team that composed “chal ud ja re panchhi” in “Bhaabhi” (1957) was exactly the same team that created this song. Like that song, here too Rajinder Krishan is the lyricist and Chitragupta is the music director.
And as mentioned earlier, this song is a superb song of its genre. The movie is “Main Chup Rahoongi” (1962) which had Sunil Dutt and Meena Kumari in lead roles.

I never said that “chal ud jaa re panchhi” is from “Main Chhup Rahoongi”. I said that the team (Rafi, Rajinder Krishan, Chitragupta) that created “chal ud jaa re panchhi” also created this “Main chhup rahoongi” song.
“Chal ud jaa re panchhi” is not from “Patang” but from “Bhaabhi”. This movie “Bhaabhi” had as many as five awesome songs that I have posted in this blog.

The song chal ud ja re panchi is from the movie patang, not main chuup rahoongi and was picturised not on meena kumari but on balraj sahni.great song though
