Sapne mein sajan se do baaten

Posted on: November 4, 2009

“Gateway of India” (1957) is a forgotten movie from the past. It had Pradeep Kumar and Madhubala in lead roles. The movie flopped at the box office.

Madan Mohan was the music director of this movie, and he composed some nice songs in this movie. I have already posted two songs from this movie.

Here is another song from this movie. This song is sung by Lata. Rajinder Krishan is the lyricist of this song.

Video of this song is not available, but one can safely guess that this song was picturised on Madhubala.

Song-Sapne me sajan se do baatein (Gateway Of India) (1957) Singer-Lata, Lyrics- Rajinder Krishan, MD-Madan Mohan

Lyrics

sapne mein sajan se do baaten
ik yaad rahi ik bhool gaye
sapne mein sajan se do baaten

ik raat milan ki aayi thi
aur us ke baad judaayi thi
gham aur khushi ki do raaten
gham aur khushi ki do raaten
ik yaad rahi ik bhool gaye
sapne mein sajan se do baaten

ik saawan rut laayi jhoole
ik saawan rut laayi jhoole
dooji mein sajan ham ko bhoole
dekhi hain yehi do barsaaten
dekhi hain yehi do barsaaten
ik yaad rahi ik bhool gaye
sapne mein sajan se do baaten

ik roz tumhen dil de baithe
phir rog birhaa kaa le baithe
ye pyaar ki hain do saugaaten
ye pyaar ki hain do saugaaten
ik yaad rahi ik bhool gaye
sapne mein sajan se do baaten

I have the VCD of this movie and this song is not there. Probably this song may not have been included in the movie.
There is a scene in the movie where Om Prakash tells Madhubala whether she would like to listen a song sung by his favorite singer on the gramophone. Madhubala says she has no time to listen. Probably this song must have been conceived as a record playing song.

Sadanand ji,
I got a little info from Shireesh Kanekar’s writing. He saw the movie GoI at its first run when the song was there. OmPrakash & co kidnap Madhubala, OP is a fan of singer Leela. He goes out with Madhubala, Leela’s photo and a tape-recorder .He fixes Leela’s (actually Lata’s) photo to a tree by his pen-knife and starts this song on the tape. He is fully engrossed in the song and Madhubala stealthily escapes.
Later when SK watched the movie on TV the song disappeared.
Reason is unknown.
