I can not recall this movie called “Suraj Aur Chandaa” (1973) which was released during by early teen years. But when I stumbled upon the songs of this movie recently, I realised that I had listened to these songs those days. In fact, a few of these songs were extremely popular and I enjoyed listening to them.
This song- “tere naam ka deewaana tere ghar ko dhoondhtaa hai” is in fact one of the iconic songs sung by Rafi. It is a pity that the movie failed to match up to the calibre of its songs.
This song is written by Anand Bakshi and music is composed by Laxmikant Pyarelal. Rafi sang the song and it was picturised on Sanjeev Kumar and Meeta.
This movie was a B grade mythlogical movie with Sanjeev Kumar and Meeta in lead roles. As happens with movies like these, such movies often fail at the box office. People whose careers depend on such movies suffer. It is only those with settled careers that emerge unscathed with such disasters. Fortunately, people like Sanjeev Kumar, Laxmikant Pyarelal etc were far too successful at that time to be affected by the failure of this movie. The same cannot be said for the likes of Meeta and others.

I remember this song playing on the radio and elsewhere very often. I guess we had tapes of the movie too. Those sure were the days.
