Suno chhoti si gudiyaa ki lambi kahaani

Posted on: November 25, 2009

In 1950s and 1960s, there were some songs where kids would ask a lady to tell them a story and the lady would sing a sad song. In the song, she would tell the kids about her own sad story. I had posted such songs here from “Gumrah” and “Lajwanti” , where Mala Sinha and Nargis sing such songs.

But they were not the first to sing such songs. As far as I know, the first actress to sing a song like this was Nutan in “Seema” (1955). Here is this song. It is sung by Lata. Hasrat Jaipuri is the lyricist and Shankar Jaikishan composed the music.

This song, I have now come to know is in three parts. First two parts are sad versions, whereas the third part is happy version.

Now I have provided a link that combines all the three versions.

Mr Sadanand Kamath, who pointed out the link containing all the three versions has also provided the lyrics for the happy version. So now the lyrics cover all the three versions of this song.

Part I (Sad version)
——————————-
suno chhoti si gudiyaa ki lambi kahaani
suno chhoti si gudiyaa ki lambi kahaani
jaise taaron ki baat sune raat suhaani
suno chhoti si gudiyaa ki kahaani

ho jiski kismat mein gham ke bichaune thhe
aansoo hi khilaune the
dard hi sakhiyaan thhi
dukh bhari ankhiyaan thhi
ghar bhi na thha koi
aur dar bhi na thha koi
ghar bhi na tha koi
aur dar bhi na tha koi
ho o o
aur dar bhi na thha koi
bhare aanchal mein gham chhupaaye
aankhon mein paani
suno chhoti si gudiyaa ki lambi kahaani
suno chhoti si gudiyaa ki kahaani

dil mein ye armaan thhe
ek chhota sa bangla ho
chaand si dharti par
sone ka jangla ho
dil mein ye armaan thhe
ek chhota sa bangla ho
chaand si dharti par
sone ka jangla ho
khel hon jeewan ke yahaan
mel hon jeewan ke
khel hon jeewan ke yahaan
mel hon jeewan ke
ho o o
aur mel hon jeewan ke
gaya bachpan to
aansoo bhari aayi jawaani
suno chhoti si gudiyaa ki lambi kahaani
suno chhoti si gudiyaa ki kahaani

chaand ka dola ho
aur bijli ka baaja ho
doley mein rani ho
aur ghode pe raja ho
chaand ka dola ho
aur bijli ka baja ho
doley mein rani ho
aur ghode pe raja ho
pyaar ke raste hon
aur phool baraste hon
pyaar ke raste hon
aur phool baraste hon
ho o o
aur phool baraste hon
ban’na chaahti thi
ek din wo taaron ki raani
suno chhoti si gudiyaa ki lambi kahaani
suno chhoti si gudiyaa ki kahaani

——————————-
Part II (Sad version)
———————–
ho o
toote pal bhar mein
sapnon ke moti bhi
lut gayi jyoti bhi
rah gaye andhere
ujde huye sawere
baat ye poori thhi
aur phir bhi adhoori thhi
baat ye poori thhi
aur phir bhi adhoori thhi
ee
ho o o
ye phir bhi adhoori thi
hoga anjaam kya
ye khabar khud bhi na jaani
suno chhoti si gudiyaa ki lambi kahaani
jaise taaron ki baat sune raat suhaani
suno chhoti si gudiyaa ki kahaani

Part III (Happy version) (Provided by Sadanand Kamath)
————————————–
suno chhoti si gudiyaa ki lambi kahaani
suno chhoti si gudiyaa ki lambi kahaani
jaise taaron ki baat sune raat suhaani
suno chhoti si gudiyaa ki kahaani

ho o
aayi khushiyaan bhi pyaar ki raahon par
ithlaati hawaaon par
gham ke gaye baadal
chaand banaa paayal
saj ke bahaar aayi
aur jhoom ke laharaayi
saj ke bahaar aayi
aur jhoom ke laharaayi ee ee
ho o o
aur jhoom ke laharaayi
hanse aanchal mein taare
rut aayi suhaani
suno chhoti si gudiyaa ki lambi kahaani
jaise taaron ki baat sune raat suhaani
suno chhoti si gudiyaa ki kahaani

sach hi huye aakhir armaan ke har sapne
gair thhi ye duniyaa aur ban gaye sab apne
sach hi huye aakhir armaan ke har sapne
gair thhi ye duniyaa aur ban gaye sab apne
geet bani aahen aur khul gayin sab raahen
geet bani aahen aur khul gayin sab raahen aen aen
ho o
aur khul gayin sab raahen
yeh hai jeewan ki geeta aur dil ki jabaani
suno chhoti si gudiyaa ki lambi kahaani
jaise taaron ki baat sune raat suhaani
suno chhoti si gudiyaa ki kahaani

What a lovely song. The sarod interludes in this song was played by Ustad Ali Akbar Khan.

Hasrat Jaipuri has been credited for the lyrics of this song, I get a feel of Shailendra all over the lyrics.

I think all the songs of ‘Seema’ have been covered in the blog.

kamath ji,
According to HFGK,there are 3 parts of this song, all sung by Lata.It will be interesting to check if the lyrics are same and whether they are sad or happy versions etc. These 3 parts are shown as 3 different songs.

I think the lyrics given above with video link cover two parts of the song – the second part of the song start with the last stanza. As this song is of over 5 minute duration, those days, there may be two 78 RPM records for this part of the song which looks like a sad version.
I have located the happy version of the song with different lyrics as under :

suno chhoti si gudiyaa ki lambi kahaani
suno chhoti si gudiyaa ki lambi kahaani
jaise taaron ki baat sune raat suhaani
suno chhoti si gudiyaa ki kahaani

ho o
aayi khushiyaan bhi pyaar ki raahon par
ithlaati hawaaon par
gham ke gaye baadal chaand banaa paayal
saj ke bahaar aayi aur jhoom ke laharaayi
saj ke bahaar aayi aur jhoom ke laharaayi ee ee
ho o o
aur jhoom ke laharaayi
hanse aanchal mein taaron ki aayi suhaani
suno chhoti si gudiyaa ki lambi kahaani
jaise taaron ki baat sune raat suhaani
suno chhoti si gudiyaa ki kahaani

sach (or katm?) huye aakhir armaan ke har sapne
gair ki ye duniyaa aur ban gaye sab apne
sach (or katm?) huye aakhir armaan ke har sapne
gair ki ye duniyaa aur ban gaye sab apne
geet bani aahen aur phul gayi sab raahen
geet bani aahen aur phul gayi sab raahen en en
ho o
aur phul gayi sab raahen
yeh hai jeewan ki geeta aur dil ki jabaani
suno chhoti si gudiyaa ki lambi kahaani
jaise taaron ki baat sune raat suhaani

The combined video of all three versions. Happy version starts at 8:00.
