Ab wo hamaare ho gaye

When one talks of “Safar”, I am reminded of a 1970 movie by this name starring Rajesh Khanna. But there was another movie by this name that was released in 1946. Not much is known about this movie, at least to me, but it seems that this movie had actors called Kanu Roy, S L Puri, V H Desai, Shobha etc. Naseem Akhtar (never heard of this name) was a singer in this movie.
Rafi had made his debut as a plaback singer in Bollywood movies in 1946.He had only sung one song and that too in chorus in the movie “Shahjahaan” (1946). But in this movie viz “Safar” (1946), Rafi got a chance to sing solo songs. And he was also given the opportunity to sing more than one song in this movie. That way, this movie is a very important movie for Rafi’s career.
Here is a rare song from this movie which is sung by Rafi. Gopal Singh Nepali, who is regarded as one of the important poets of Hindi literature, wrote this song. C Ramchandra is the music director.
