Mukherji family was a very influential family in Bollywood. Brothers Shashdhar Mukherji and Subodh Mukherji were producers of Bollywood movies in 1950s and 1960s. Filmistan studio was co founded by Shashdhar Mukherji. Shashdhar Mukherji’s sons too were well known actors. Most movie followers are familiar with the names of his sons viz Joy Mukherji and Deb Mukherji.
The family was connected by marriage to other filmy families too. For instance, Shashdhar Mukherji’s wife Sati devi was the sister of Ganguly brothers (viz the famous Ashok Kumar, Kishore Kumar and Anoop Kumar). Not just that, one of the sons of Shashdhar Mukherji, viz Somu Mukherji was married to Tanuja, who herself belonged to the Samarth family whose mother was Shobhana Samarth, sister was Nutan, and her daughter is Kajol. Rani Mukherji is also from the same clan.
This post is not about any of them. This post pertains to one of the lesser known members of this clan. It is about Ronodeb Mukherji who was one of the sons of Shashdhar Mukherji.
It was Ronobeb Mukherji who introduced his brother Deb Mukherji as a hero in the movie “Tu Hi Meri Zindagi” (1965). This movie had Nivedita as the heroine opposite Deb Mukherji.
Ronodeb Mukherji not only directed this movie, he was the music director of this movie too.
This movie is forgotten along with its music. But one must say that the music is quite nice to listen to.
Here is a song from this movie which is sung by Asha Bhonsle and I presume that the actress singing it on the screen is Nivedita.
Neeraj is the lyricist and I must admit that I had difficulty understanding what the lyricist is trying to convey in this song.
In any case, this is a very rare song and therefore a nice find for Bollywood history’s sake.
