I had never heard this song. In fact, I was not aware of this movie either. Now that I have heard this song, and watched the picturisation, I wonder where this song was lying hidden all these days. What an absolute gem of a song !
This song has two versions. Male version is sung by Rafi and female version by Asha Bhonsle.
This movie was directed by A C Trilokchandar for A V M Productions, Bombay. The movie had Meena Kumari, Dharmendra, S V RangaRao, Balraj Sahni, Rajan, Om Prakash, Pushplata, Bhagwan, Manorama, Mohan Choti, Kammo, Umesh Sharma ec in it
The movie The song itself is picturised on two unknown actors who could be Rajan and Pushplata.
Rajinder Krishan is the lyricist and he has come up with lovely light hearted lyrics that includes gibberish (dain dig dig dig…) in the beginning of each stanza. Chitragupta, the eternally underachieving and underestimated music director has come up with a gem of a song.

S.V.Ranga Rao was the Prithviraj Kapoor of the South doing varied roles!!! Not an obscure actor. He might not have done many Hindi roles. I am not able to see the video for some reason right now,shall do so later. This is the Hindi version of a Telugu/Tamil movie. I’m sure all versions were hits. You have covered so many good old songs -known and unknown. Thank you for all of them.

I am now able to view it. That actor is definitely not SVR. It could be Rajan. IMDB list has Rajan and some others like Mohan Choti whom I would recognize. Looked up youtube where Chandrashekhar Gupta-ji has given lots of information on songs and actors who are less know by name but familiar by sight. Rather like Memsaab’s Artist Identification Project.

The missing phrase sounds like “hamadani” which seemingly does not mean anything, that is why I have put ?? at these places.
It is not “hamar jaani” for sure. We check the lyrics with our own ears instead of relying on what is contained in other sites.

The word most certainly is ‘hamaadani’, as confirmed by Harmandir ji also after referring to the print lyrics from the film booklet. We can certainly update the ???? in the lyrics above.
It is not an Urdu word, more likely Arabic or Persian. I am trying to locate the meaning of this, and will update as soon as I find it.
This comment tells us about the quality of work being done on some of the more well known web sites.

Thanks for the respond,but the lyrics were not complete.please could you look for the lyrics for the whole songs ,as I’m a fan of Mohmod Rafi and Mahendra Kapoor and as a hooby I perfom and sing their songs.
