In my bid to clear the backlog of my old farmaishes, here is one song whose farmaish was given more than one year back. This song is from “Suhaagan” (1964). This song is a duet sung by Lata and Manna Dey. Madan Mohan is the music director. Madan Mohan teamed up with Raja Mehdi Ali Khan and Rajinder Krishan in most of his movies and on the other hand he rarely worked with the leading names (Shailendra, Majrooh Sultanpuri, Sahir Ludhianvi and Hasrat Jaipuri). But in this movie, he worked with Hasrat Jaipuri. And what superb lyrics Hasrat Jaipuri came up with in this movie !
It is so unfortunate that this movie, like most movies in which Madan Mohan scored the music, flopped at the box office. But the music is top class, as always. This is a song that I may have heard in the past, but I have heard it properly only this time. And I thank Lalitha whose farmaish made me aware of this song.
Here is the audio of this song which is a delight to listen to. I have managed to locate the video as well, but that is incomplete, misses parts of the song, and in general detracts from the beauty of the song. So I have only included the audio of this song here. What a lovely “Chhaayaageet” song it is ! A forgotten gem indeed !
This movie has Guru Dutt and Mala Sinha in lead roles, but this sng is not picturised on them. IN this song, Mala Sinha reads a diary / notes of Guru Dutt and the pictusation shows what she reads. At least that is what I was able to deduce from the poor quality video of the song. Readers who have watched the movie (there may not be too many such people) are requested to enlighten the rest of us about the plot of this movie, so that we are able to appreciate the songs of this movie better.
