I have mentioned in the past that the Bollywood movies of the past used to have their get togethers not in hotels, but in their palatial houses that every hero/ heroine used to possess. Their palatial house used to have a big hall for the purpose of these get together. And in these occasions, the hero/ heroine was required to sing a song. A grand piano was kept in the hall near the big staircase (that led to the upper floor)for the purpose of this song. The hero/ heroine, after initial nakhra, would get seated on the piano and then sing a song accompanied by music.The music incidentally would bear little resemblence to the music that normally comes out of a grand piano.
I have always maintained that it is not possible to sing and play a grand piano simultaneosly and so I always watch these piano /get together songs often with amusement rather than seriousness.
And I have also mentioned the facts that all the invitees to the get together listen to the song in stony silence, without moving a limb and without batting an eyelid, as if curfew is imposed on their movement.
The song under discussion is very much a get together piano song and fulfills all the observations that I have made about this kind of songs. However, I find that this song has something different from the usual piano songs. In this song, vishwajeet is seated at the piano and he plays the instrument. He does not sing. Singing is done by Waheeda Rehman. Now that is far more realistic that the usual piano songs that we are used to in Bollywood movies. And the music that we hear is actually piano music. That way, this piano song is picturised in a more realistic manner than the majority of such songs.
This song is sung by Lata. Anand Bakshi is the lyricist and Kalyanji Anandji comosed the music. The movie is “Majboor” (1964), not to be confused with “Majboor” (1974).
